Police investigating theft of rental cars

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is “actively investigating” the theft of two rental cars from MR Rentals in Paraquita Bay.

In a press release issued today, Friday, February 28, police noted that the stolen vehicles—a Kia Picanto and a Kia Soul—were taken from the rental agency overnight.

“Investigators believe these stolen vehicles may be used to commit further crimes and could potentially be fitted with different license plates to avoid detection,” the RVIPF stated.

Police also revealed that an attempted theft at another rental company in West End further supports their suspicion that stolen rental cars may be linked to broader criminal activity.

The RVIPF is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“Anyone with information, no matter how small, is urged to contact the RVIPF’s non-emergency line at 311 or the RVIPF’s Intelligence Unit at 368-9339,” the RVIPF said. Reports can also be made anonymously through the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS).

Authorities have repeatedly warned rental companies about the increasing risk of vehicle theft. Last year, Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Kenrick Davis advised both residents and rental agencies not to leave keys in unattended vehicles. He noted that the growing trend of car thefts marks a shift from the island’s previous norm, where such incidents were rare.
