Police have identified the man who was shot and killed in Huntums Ghut Sunday night as 34-year-old Dominica native, Erran Charles.

While bringing some clarity on the shooting, law enforcers said the second gunshot victim is a 17-year-old. The teen remains in stable condition at Peebles Hospital.

Charles’ murder, in the meantime, is the first for the BVI for the year and police say investigations are ongoing.

“At this time, details surrounding the circumstances in this incident are limited. Police continue to interview persons, therefore witnesses to this incident are being asked to contact the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Major Crime Team at (284)368-9342,” police said in a media release Monday afternoon.

The RVIPF further assured that an increased number of armed officers has been deployed to police the territory’s streets since the start of the year.

It said these armed offices conduct routine evening and overnight patrols, ‘particularly around large gatherings and hotspot areas’.

“While police cannot prevent every premeditated act, our objective is to make life difficult for opportunists to carry out random criminal acts,” Deputy Commissioner Alwin James commented.

He further noted the importance of the public assisting police with information on crimes.

I was in a public place and witnessed a girl brag about getting into clubs under the age of 15. She is a parent now and still a teen. Now her parent is from another caribbean island. Tell me why do we allow these people to reside in the BVI beyond seven (7) years. What benefit really are some who reside here to this small island nation? If you cannot add to the BVI, what is my incentive to keeping you around?

I trust and hope that we get ourselves a useful labour minister. This breakdown in our society needs correcting.

Like the many other victims who were gunned down both old and young including the 11yr old…You didn’t deserve to die in such a heartless manner. The disturbing thing is that nobody is bringing attention to the victims after the crime, apart from the little attention from the news and once a few days pass they are forgotten. I feel for the families and friends of all the victims who are awaiting JUSTICE for their loved ones. I don’t care if someone is 99,20,10,5 or 40 yrs old, they don’t deserve to be gunned down

    Check out Baughers Bay comment.

….The person recently came to BVI.
..The person usually chills on the block.

… The person is in hiding right now.

… When things cool, the person will return to the block or maybe leave the territory.

A young man has lost his life and instead of sympathethetical messages, we have to read about regrets, who came when and what they didnt do after they came.

This country needs alot of prayers when its own citizens cannot offer condolences for the loved ones of a newly departed:((((
