Police officer interdicted for ‘criminal offences’

A police officer has been held in connection to recent illegal activities reported in the territory.

The Royal Virgin Police Force (RVIPF) gave that indication while responding to questions from BVI News on Thursday, January 21.

“Commissioner [Michael Matthews] is confirming that an officer has been interdicted from duty as investigations are being conducted into criminal offences,” the RVIPF stated.

The officer’s name is being withheld as no charges has been laid against him, so far.

However, BVI News otherwise understands that the interdicted cop is a member of the RVIPF’s Armed Response Unit.

It is also understood the crimes for which he is being investigated is in relation to a recent drug bust that resulted in police recovering 150 kilos of cocaine on Tortola.

Investigations are ongoing and our news centre will provide more on this developing story as information becomes available.

The incoming commissoner need to asked all police officers to undergo a lie detector tests and a drug test. Refusing to do these tests you would automatically be dismissed. Plain and simple. Many officers would surely resign before taking a lie detector test. The police force is more corrupted that the commissoner really knows. And Mr commissoner it is not just a few officers you have many within the ranks and files that are corrupted.

The governor is responsible for the Police force and prisons. Instead of chasing something that doesn’t have any evidence out in the open he should have opened an inquiry into the Police force seeing that we have had at least 7 officers charged with crimes or discharged from duty in recent times. There has been outrage about corrupt cops for longer than this VIP administration has been in power but the top cop keeps brushing it off while the number continues to grow.

Was thinking the same thing. The Police force needs investigating. Only white COP and they are the most corrupt. Some black people just love when they have a master, only then they feel safe. Sometimes I just cant believe the things I heard coming from their mouth. They always ready to condemn their own people over white people.

Meanwhile the present CoP goes off as a saint! What? Why? How? Let’s examine all of them from the heel to the head.. Why was there no investigations into the force during Morris term or on the arrival of MM? We know just having a new CoP will not solve the issue but oh the distractions is to shift the actors who is clever enough to hoodwink the GP. Oh the magicians pull a great hoodwinkie.

  15. Aprox 15 yrs says:

For the last fifteen yrs the royal virgin islands police force have recruited some very dishonest and currupt men and women to join that establishment. It sickens me to my stomach to see what is becoming of that force which still have some good officers. These dishonest officers are currupting the good ones . Sad but its the reality. It is the same as the society we now living in. The virgin islands men and women that i grow up with in the seventies and eighties are no more. They have been influence by the get rich quick by any means mentality. So its a trickle down effect and surely the police force is one that can get feel that effect quickly but the the ramphant dishonesty and curruption is to much for honest hard working citizens to ignore. Mr commissioner you dont know half of it. Please stop the recruitment of noncitizens. This is only the begining of whats to come. This country have a half rotten public service. Curruption is evey where. Its basically the way of life in this small community.

Most of your statement is true. But remember these drug bust came down in the 70s/80s from a top politician who influenced it all. Who was caught in the plane crash at the airport; top customs and immigration played a major part in the implementation of drugs coming and passing through this territory.
This little country was built from drugs. Take a look at the little mans wealth today. Some who hasn’t worked a day in their lives had the biggest house and some now own big businesses.

    • @Aprox 15yrs says:

Absolutely. Have seen them in action in the Ghetto a few times.

Reply to Aprox 15 YRS, you are asking the commissioner to stop the recruitment of none citizen, are you saying that by hiring all locals it will stop the corruption, or there are no corrupt locals?

  17. ENGLAND says:

This rvipf has alot of hypocrites, when those 3 officers was arrested after lucan investigations, the senior admin of the rvipf protected these officers, they knew what these officers were doing and they bury their head in the sand, if you are in a certain circle in the rvipf, you can do anything and getaway, their is a Dominican ring and we all know who constructed it, this man needs to go for the good of the rvipf, as long as you are in that circle, you can be a criminal while a police officer with no penalty, THE ENTIRE SENIOR ADMINITRATION NEED TO BE SENT HOME.

Law enforcement needs to develop a culture where the corrupt officer fears the incorruptible officer and not the other way around. Goes girl politicians and the general population also. We are better than this.
