Police have launched a probe into what is believed to be the first shooting incident in the BVI since the start of the year.

Police said one person was injured in the January 3 shooting and has since been transported to hospital for treatment.

Law enforcers have not yet released the identity of the injured person nor have they disclosed the extent of their injuries.

The Royal Virgin Island Police Force (RVIPF), in the meantime, said the incident happened during the late hours of Friday at a bar on Tortola.

“A report of gunshots being fired at Bouncer’s Bar, Paraquita Bay was received after 11 o’clock Friday night. Upon arrival, officers of the RVIPF learned that one person was injured in this incident and was transported to Dr Orlando Smith hospital by private vehicle where he underwent treatment for his injuries,” the RVIPF said in a media release on Saturday, January 4.

The added: “Persons with information into this incident are asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department through the RVIPF’s access number 311. Persons can also call the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339. All information will be held in the strictest confidence.”
