Police respond to Carrot Bay Festival shooting
Police were called to Carrot Bay on Thursday afternoon following reports of gunfire during the community’s Emancipation Festival activities, with reports indicating that two people were injured in the incident.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) confirmed shortly after the incident that officers were responding to reports of shots being fired in the western Tortola community.
Police did not immediately confirm whether anyone had been injured, and no information was released on the identities or conditions of the two persons reportedly hurt.
“Circumstances are unclear. More information will be provided as they become available,” the Police Information Office said in a statement dated Thursday, August 6.
The shooting occurred as the territory’s 2026 Emancipation Festival entered its final days, with activities scheduled in Carrot Bay as part of the annual celebrations.
Police had not disclosed whether any suspects had been identified or whether arrests had been made at the time of their statement.

At least what area it occurred, we saw photos of a vehicle shoot up, was anyone seen fleeing the scene. There is police information which is also nothing and there is journalism. Most of the (local) BVI Society has been involved in the drug trade for decades since the 1970s.
Everyone knows the “businessmen” and “politicians’ who facilitate this.
It’s even being glorified through Fast Boat racing, Golden Chains and Big Excessive cars.
Money is transferred through land purchases, and money is being laundered through all the local businesses. This is not an exception, this is the RULE.
In order to clean this up you have to start changing the BVI “Kulture”….
The District Rep is infamous for pattiing these young human garbage on their hand while saying “allyo mus behave yo self” and seeing to it that the police is kept in the dark regarding their identity and we the people continue to suffer threats and thievery.
Hear dis ya! Policing has to be more than a job; it must be a profession. It is a labor of love..The BVI is a small bedroom community where people are closely related. As such, there must be a high level trust between the police and the citizens they serve and protect. There is a low level of thrust between the police and citizens.. It seems like the RVIPF leak like a sieve. Consequently, the distrust results in citizens reluctance to share information with the police. It is a Sgt Schultz in the Hogan’s Heroes line; “ I don’t know nothing about, I see nothing, I hear nothing.” This tight lip approach, along with the politcs within the RVIPF, is making harder to deter and solve crime.
Morever, like other issues in the BVI, policing needs a structural revamping . The UK and colonialism are about control. The UK will be quicker to fund a jail than funding a secondary school., ie, HMP; HHS, nought. Nonetheless, police engagement must a lead factor, not a lagging factor, in large events.
