Positive Behaviour Management gets strong feedback from local school
At least one local school has exhibited promising results from the Positive Behaviour Management initiative — a programme that rewards which well-behaved students.
This is according to Principal of Joyce Samuel Primary School, Orlandette Crabbe, who said the educational facility’s experience since implementing the initiative yielded positive results at all levels.
She said the initiative is an essential part of education in the 21st century and believes that schools have the capacity to excel under this programme.
“Positive behaviour management is a transformational, child-friendly approach to managing student conduct. It empowers students to take charge of themselves, focuses on positive student behaviours, develops intrinsic motivation and has the potential to totally revolutionize school culture and climate. That has been our experience,” Crabbe stated.
100 percent buy-in
Principal Crabbe also said the implementation of the programme at her school saw a smooth transition with teachers automatically jumping on board with the new initiative.
“We had already been working on bits and pieces of the programme in an effort to address challenges with student conduct, attendance and parental support. The need for this programme’s implementation was communicated to the staff and immediately there was almost 100 percent buy-in,” she said.
Action plan implemented
Crabbe further outlined her school’s systematic approach to the programme with the formation of a committee and the development of an action plan.
This plan, according to the principal, was implemented with several elements occurring concurrently. These elements include professional development for staff, the creation of universal expectations for students, conflict resolution education for students, training for parents and the formation of a student government and school ambassadors programme.
It further included signage and artwork around the school, student-centred lessons, behaviour management tools in classrooms, and the development of a character education programme.
Due to the results yielded at Joyce Samuel Primary, Crabbe is encouraging all school leaders to heavily invest in the initiative, which is being supported by the Ministry of Education.

This should be implemented before now! A good teacher know this is best practices and uses this as behavior management in the classroom for ALL students!
The bad behavior is a result of how the children are raised at home. There is no one in the household that reprimands the child. The daddy is off with his nickname looking for another bed to use and the mama don’t give a damn. Perhaps free contraception should be given out in school and taken home for the parents.

What is so revolutionary about this. This has always been common knowledge and practice for teachers from when I stated teaching over 30 years ago. It leaves me to wonder what is going on in these modern day classroom if they consider this initiative revolutionary.
Wow what a lie. Hundreds of children’s misbehaving, not even doing their school work. There’s more fails than years before. There are children who are always out on the streets than home doing work.
Ms. Crabbe is speaking from her school point of view not all public school. She can only advise from what her staff and herself have done since the online school has began.
