Preliminary: 16,553 voters registered ahead of general election
There are 16,553 registered voters in the British Virgin Islands, according to the 2026 Preliminary List published this week by the Office of the Supervisor of Elections ahead of the upcoming general elections constitutionally due by June next year.
The list covers voters across the territory’s nine electoral districts and is now available for public inspection at 51 locations and online.
Supervisor of Elections Carlene Herbert is encouraging registered voters to review the list and verify that their information has been correctly recorded.
Herbert said the review provides voters with an opportunity to confirm their information and helps the Office identify and correct any potential errors, ensuring the territory’s voters list remains accurate throughout the year.
The Preliminary List is available for inspection at 51 locations throughout the territory, including supermarkets, clinics, bars and grills, restaurants, stores, government administration buildings and the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.
Persons may also view the list online through the Office of the Supervisor of Elections.
The Supervisor of Elections said persons with claims or objections to the preliminary list have until Friday, September 18, to make submissions to the Office.

Enough is enough. I haven’t voted since Irma but after see all these fresh candidates I’ve decided that I will vote for an upset just to mess up the current greedy politicians.
Not saying those new candidates can’t be just as greedy but I want to teach our politicians ndp and vip a lesson. We the people have the power and can vote them out…
Even without voting we could of March but we got too much keyboard warriors . Them sound disgruntled online but afraid to march to shutdown the country
Bills getting out of control
Roads is still trash
Water services still trash and after them do a patch fix they have the audacity to charge you more!! Something you paid tax for every pay day now increasing due to their poor maintenance
Electricity still cutting off randomly
They realize a lot of us using private insurance cuz nhi is a waste of time with a the “limits” and caps on everything. But politician are allowed to have their own private insurance
Government still renting building and paying tax money right into other politicians hands and people in their elite circle like the grand lake etc
If none of this outraged you then idk what to tell you cuz maybe you loved being taken advantage of and being kicked while your down.
But since the country won’t rally to March then I will use my vote to vote for anyone to replace these incompetent crooks. Just to upset them and their schemes. Could be a dog I voting in . I don’t care
16,553 registered voters? That figure is surprising. When was the last census conducted? Looking through some of these lists, there seem to be many people who have long since left the Territory but remain on the voters’ register.
If the list is not regularly updated, then it cannot be a true reflection of the people who are here and able to vote. Politicians are campaigning to represent these numbers, but how many of those names on the register still have a real connection to the Territory today?
Our population has changed dramatically over the years, and locals now make up a much smaller share of the overall population. If we’re serious about fair representation, then we need to have an honest conversation about whether our electoral system reflects the people who are living, working, and contributing to the Territory.
How many people in the BVI are actually eligible to vote, and what percentage of those eligible individuals are registered?
What is the population of the BVI? If I was premier, I would want to know how many people are in the territory for better strategic planning. The Premier needs real leaders around him.
As the Premier travels to different conferences, meets with other Caribbean nations, and even travels as far as India to discuss potential partnerships and opportunities, I have to ask: How can you confidently plan for the future of this Territory when we don’t even have a clear, current understanding of how many people actually live here?
How do you determine whether our roads, water supply, electricity, healthcare system, schools, housing, waste management, and other critical infrastructure can sustain the population when we don’t have accurate population data?
The BVI needs real leadership. We dont need the rehearsed speeches, conference appearances, handshakes, and photo opportunities. We need leaders who are willing to get into the trenches and ask the difficult questions.
Why are certain communities still struggling with reliable water?
Why can I walk into RiteWay and spend $400 on what feels like a few basic groceries?
Why is gas still around $5 a gallon?
Why are the costs of housing, utilities, food, transportation, and basic necessities continuing to put pressure on ordinary people?
With Caribbean Airlines out the picture, LIAT being completely unreliable and InterCaribbean playing Russian roulette because they are monopolizing, what is the plan for US?
Why are we allowing so many derelict vehicles to become the new landmarks?
Why are we allowing soooo much nepotism in this place?
Why cant we start a project and finish it?
Why do we start new projects without finishing others?
Why is the hospital new signage so expensive?
Why isn’t the Admin Complex finished? It was destroyed in 2017. We’re now in 2026. Why are we still relocating government departments to our cousin’s, uncle’s, and auntie’s commercial buildings, or friends’ commercial buildings?
Why aren’t we prioritizing finishing the Admin Complex, but instead prioritizing digging up the streets, sidewalks, and trees?
I think the government is too busy gaslighting us, where they push one issue in front of our face that they can rectify and funnel through a little bit of money through these newly established construction companies, in order to put smoke and mirrors in front of us so that we go back and revisit the real issues.
And quite frankly, I don’t necessarily think the Premier is solely to blame. Leadership is only as good as the information and advice being provided to the person making the decisions.
If you have a circle of people around you who have been in the system for decades and are comfortable maintaining the status quo, rather than challenging it, then you’re not getting the full picture. Leaders need advisers who are prepared to tell them the uncomfortable truth.
We need leadership that knows the numbers, understands the problems, asks the hard questions, measures results, and most importantly, cares about the people.
@ Laura, as much as I would like to agree with you, once they are belongers, registered, and alive, they can vote. Even if they haven’t been living in the territory for decades, it is their constitutional right. Is it right or ethical? Probably not. But that is the reality of the situation that faces those of us who remain in the BVI through its ups and downs.
@ Laura.. How do you define “Local” In current demographics of the population?
@ Norris Turnbull That’s a fair question. By ‘locals’, I mean people who currently live in the Territory and actively participate in daily life, whether they are BVIslanders or Belongers.
Are you kidding? You look like you want to disenfranchise Virgin Islanders. Soon we will have a Filippino Premier? Please quit it, Laura. And Locals are too dumb to see what is happening!
Family!
On going through District 5 list alone, I notice quite a lot of deceased names on the list. Therefore, the list is not accurate.
Thousands of persons have been given status in the last 7 yrs so this is expected.
Vote for change
how dare you tell master wiggie that he wants to disenfranchise virgin islanders , we already got a puerto Rican premier, maybe a Filipino might fo a better job . Anyway don’t disrespect wiggie like that , seeing that he’s working his way up to that status , he’s is beginning with his new job of consultant to our Premier so he’s on his way up , next step is taking over the 3rd district from the wannabe veteran who hasn’t accomplished anything in that location in decades besides chatting chatting sh*t . Then that will bring him closer to his goal of mission accomplished – the top seat . Thats when we gine see how he run tings with his ego in full swing . Bam bam bam / when we see him in the streets we will have to bow down to him and say * your majesty * or spend some time up balo for not showing him respect .
