Premier hopes for thorough investigation into Frandie’s death

Premier Andrew Fahie

While police investigations into the tragic death of local musician and volleyball player Frandie Martin Jr remain ongoing, persons close to the deceased have questioned the reason for the lengthy delay in bringing charges or a resolution to the matter.

Premier Andrew Fahie, while responding to a question about updates on the matter, said he was hopeful for a thorough investigation by the police.

“That’s an investigation being done with the police … and they’ll come forward and tell the public their findings,” Premier Fahie said at a press conference last Friday.

Police released a statement following the incident which occurred nearly five months ago on October 16 2021, advising that initial investigations indicated that sometime after 6:15 pm on the day in question, two motor vessels collided in the waters outside Prospect Reef.

Onboard a 40-foot monohull with the name Blue Bayou was a captain and four passengers. Aboard the other vessel, a 35-foot contender with the name Yeya was a captain and two passengers.

Police said the three persons on board the Yeya received severe injuries.

Martin Jr, a resident of Fat Hogs Bay, subsequently died of his injuries while the two others, a male and female, received treatment at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital.

Of the five onboard the Blue Bayou, two minors were reportedly treated and discharged while a female received treatment at the hospital.

One man was arrested but later discharged in the matter pending further investigations.

Since then, there have been no public updates from police on the state of those investigations.

  2. Simple says:

The captain and passengers of the BLUE BAYOU are all members of an unidentified prominent BVI business family and under police protection. Wealth buys silence in the BVI! However there is a time limit on this police silence due to the accidental death of Frandie Martin Jr. in BVI waters. Eventually the captain of BB will appear in Magistrate’s court and be indicted for a manslaughter offense. Fortunately this drama is in the jurisdiction of the judiciary and not the HOA legislature.

    • Common sense says:

Not sure why you would opine all that, there is no question that Blue Bayou had the right of way in the accident from the area of damage done to the smaller boat, everything thing else is incidental to the accident.

  3. TRUTH PLEASE says:

Why is “the truth and nothing but the truth” such a challenge? A young man was on radio being interviewed about the Shipping Registry. He clearly stated, in English, that the division charged with investigations into accidents at sea did not have a QUALIFIED INVESTIGATOR to investigate the incident. One had to be brought from the UK. The UK person came and made investigations. The English gentleman himself clearly said in ENGLISH that it would have been better if there had been an investigator in the BVI at the time of the accident, not weeks after. I can’t be the only person who heard all that. At any rate there still should not be a good reason for no updates or person(s) held responsible for so long for this tragic incident. And just another FYI people all over the world know the name of the “unidentified prominent BVI business family and in particular the particular person who is allegedly responsible. Even they question why this has taken so long.
