‘Premier lodged police complaint against me’, Rosan-Jones claims

Cindy Rosan-Jones

Former employee of the state-owned BVI Tourist Board and host of the Cut Deep talk show, Cindy Rosan-Jones was allegedly warned by police because one of her Facebook posts was deemed threatening to Premier Andrew Fahie.

On the February 22 edition of the Cut Deep talk show, Rosan-Jones said she received a call from a detective who told her it was a hashtag used in the social media post that was reported to the police and deemed threatening.

The hashtag in question, #deathbyathousandcuts was made in a December 16, 2020 Facebook post in which Rosan-Jones addressed her firing from the BVI Tourist Board and alleged that Premier Fahie ordered the termination.

“I used this hashtag and apparently the Premier made a complaint with the police station to say that he felt threatened that I used that hashtag. We’re talking about the Premier of the territory, I don’t think it would have taken him almost three months to register that I had made a threat,” Rosan-Jones argued.

“The fact that our Honourable Premier who is a learned man — an educator — that he could take that quote and apply it that I could bring physical harm to him and that he felt so threatened by me that he had to have a detective from the police force to get in contact with me [is surprising],” Rosan-Jones expressed.

She added that the officer was simply doing his job, but expressed that she saw the alleged report as an intimidation tactic.

“I can tell you right now, Honourable Premier, that I did not feel intimidated. But it’s unfortunate that as the leader of the territory that these are the lengths you are willing to go. I find it very amusing but anyway, thank you for that, you continue to solidify your dangerous position in my mind,” Rosan-Jones said.

Rosan-Jones is a staunch critic of local politicians and a strong proponent of greater transparency in the BVI.

Back in December, it is alleged that Rosan-Jones’ criticism of the government led the Fahie-administration to make her position at the BVI Tourist Board redundant.

Geez. For God sakes you WBA’s an employee of the Government and anyone with common sense knows you took things a bridge too far. Yes there is freedom of expression but common sense should have told you that as a Government employee you cannot say everything that comes to mind or got on the airwaves openly criticizing the Government. And you question why you lost your job. Wow!

Cindy is no more than a misleadingly rip tide that can occur near beaches with breaking waves.
So, do not be surprised when she starts pulling your government through the narrow channels and out to the sea.

So let me get this straight, so the Premier reported Cindy to the police for her metaphoric post on Facebook but he did not report to the police who the person or persons were that he claimed threatened to kill him during the early months of his administration. Instead of reporting those persons he hired bodyguards at a huge expense to tax payers. Just when you though you have seen it all! All I can say is wow!

@My take: I strongly agree with your views. People should be able to differentiate on when, where, what and how it should be stated. It’s not because One is being applauded for being Outspoken and Fearless that they should jump to open their mouth and say whatever they deem fit. The same People encouraging her behavior are the Ones praising her downfall. Wise up Young Lady!

He wouldn’t hire body guards for you Cindy. The big man who he was afraid of is no longer with us so he could go to police now. The Premier was one of Cindy”s biggest fans when she was speaking about the NDP. She is now public enemy #1 because she is speaking about the VIP. I bet no body from the last government ever reported Cindy to the police or threaten her in any way. You know what you have. You don’t know what you’re going to get. Just look at what the BVI has come to just under 2 years of the VIP rule – murders regularly and police still don’t have security cameras, economy and tourism on the verge of collapsing, commission of inquiry with the possible suspension of our constitution, victimization, alleged mismanagement of public funds and more.
Look at where our country is.

Not a fan of the premier but where is your evidence that it was infact him that reported you to the cops? You posted your information on a public domain where any “concerned” citizen could take it upon themselves to report the matter to the police. This is a common occurrence in other countries like the US. The secret service will pay you a visit for any post deemed threatening to a sitting president. Would like to know how you arrived at your assertion. Presently, at best you are seeking sympathy and at worse, defaming the sitting Premier. You brought it here so we the citizens eagerly await your response.

That’s what she said. It is not evidence. This is a damaging allegation to take her word for it. In court, that is called “hearsay”. If the police confirmed that the Premier, in fact, contacted them about the said post, then that’s a different case. I agree with the above poster.

I hear what you are saying. There is no proof that he personally called the police. YES she said it on her talk show in those words but it does not mean she was speaking the TRUTH. It is a serious issue in the BVI that people believe everything that is published as the TRUTH. People can say whatever they want without consequence – unfortunately a LOT of people take advantage of this to spread lies. I am not saying this is the case here – I am just saying it is important to verify what you hear and read on the internet.

Anyone who reads that hashtag with a grain of sense would consider it threatening. In an era where person no longer carry out acts of violence themselves, but pay to have it done, he should feel threatened. I am the last person to side with the Premier, but in this case he was correct. Does Mrs. Jones like any politician on the island? What she is doing putting herself in the spot light and under a microscope. She is making this personal. If she wants to be a critic, that’s ok, but don’t get personal. Stick to the talking points. Critique the issues and leave the personal attacks out of it. She wins no points from me at the moment.

Again, context et cetera are at times at the mercy of the reader. For argument sake, let’s say she meant otherwise, or both? It was a social media post. Or the premiere, or I or you, were of “particularly low literacy ” and felt threatened by those words. Does it mean then, that because she didn’t intend for the threat to be literal, that we didn’t feel threatened? She was out of line and has opened her self to litigation. A lot less has been argued in the court of law and won.

I wish people like you will just go sit down. If the government open the ports and the place flood with COVID-19 cases they are the worst and not protecting the people of the country. If they leave the ports close and control re-entry that too is an issue. Cannot please mankind. Obviously, a blind man can see that we have a 2 by 4 hospital that cannot handle a major outbreak. I really wish before people speak they will take the time to think logically for themself and apply some basic COMMON SENSE which obviously isn’t so common. Thinking about money all time, when your fighting for life or dead what this little of money you going to make if the sea port going to open going to do for you? Major countries who are opening their borders are struggling with this unprecedented situation, England for example had to lock down 3 times and the people there are loosing their life’s in droves.
