Tributes have poured in across the Virgin Islands following the sudden passing of Director of Communications for the Government of the Virgin Islands, Karia Christopher, last Friday, with public officials and residents describing her as a dedicated professional whose work strengthened government communication and community trust.

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said the government was “deeply shocked and saddened” to learn of the overnight passing of Christopher, whom he described as a “highly respected and accomplished communication specialist, a trusted and valued colleague and a strong contributor to the effective delivery of the government’s communications agenda.”

He added that her warmth, integrity and positive energy would always shine through, regardless of the situation.

Premier Wheatley offered condolences to her husband, Rory, her two children, Hunter and Dakota, her mother, Delrice, and her extended family, noting that the government remained in close communication with the Christopher family and offered support.

Acting Governor David Archer Jr extended condolences on the passing of “an exceptional public officer, a devoted professional, and a cherished member of our Virgin Islands community.” He said Christopher’s service was “meaningful, impactful, and enduring,” and that she “ensured that clear, responsible, and compassionate communication reached our people.”

He noted that she served with “dignity, precision, and an unwavering commitment to the truth,” adding that she made a “positive and lasting imprint wherever she served.” He offered support to her husband and children and extended special comfort to the staff of the Premier’s Office and other departments affected by the loss.

Junior Minister for Financial Services Lorna Smith described Christopher as “selfless to a fault”, adding that Christopher “followed her dreams to the fullest”. Christopher was credited with raising local business standards and for being “the queen of talk”.

Health Minister Vincent Wheatley said he remained “in shock with the news of the passing of my special friend Karia,” noting that “there was always such a positive flow of energy between us.” He extended condolences to her family and friends.
