Premier rubbishes claims that gov’t “doing nothing”, denies cronyism

Premier Fahie

Premier Andrew Fahie has come out against detractors that have accused his government of being at a standstill and of practising cronyism.

Fahie, who was speaking on the governing VIP’s Let’s Talk radio show last evening, said the truth on the matter will ultimately surface.

He reminded persons of the many pieces of legislation his administration has passed and the myriad of projects they have executed to bring the government in line with modern-day practices.

“There is this mindset that the government is doing nothing – or persons who are trying to give people the mindset that all we’re doing is trying to set up ourselves and friends and family – and I’m not going to let that stick,” Premier Fahie said.

According to the Premier, his government also continues to put measures in place to keep the BVI safe as the territory experiences a major COVID-19 outbreak.

“I want to make it clear to persons in the Virgin Islands that I understand their pain and I don’t like to quote people but I’m just amazed lately when I hear that this government is disconnected to the public. We understand your pain,” Premier Fahie assured.

The leader of government business then said he did not feel it was up to persons to measure the degree of his administration’s love for the people of the BVI.

He also said he felt the need to be direct in denying any notion of a lack of transparency and accountability on the part of his government. He said those terms were being used as buzzwords.

“I want to tell the people of the Virgin Islands that your Premier has not touched a dime of your money, and I dare any of them to come and show me the proof,” Premier Fahie stated.

He said persons will not be allowed to “dutty” his name and that of the government any further, especially since his administration has worked hard for residents.

And contrary to what others have said, Premier Fahie argued that all of the money used by his government to help the public can be accounted for.

Furthermore, he said any criticism that his government used taxpayers’ money to help taxpayers is a criticism his government can live with because it was done in an accountable and transparent manner and in a time of need.

The Fahie administration has come under major criticism in recent days since they decided to hire up to nine political advisers to service ministers.

I am willing to stand up and take responsibility for my actions and my part in helping this government to be elected. I am man enough to say that I made the big mistake. Reflecting on the election season, the VIP had no real plans for this country. They successfully demonized the NDPand had some good music playing. They didn’t fool us. We fooled ourselves because looking back it was clear they had no real plans so we cannot reasonably expect them to have plans now.
I am not big fans of Ronnie and Myron. But to me, things would have gone a lot different if those two men were in the House of Assembly today. What we have now just can’t handle the trouble that the BVi is in.

Your post is so stupid and ignorant. This newsite have some paid bloggers whose only job is to post negative things about the government inspite of the good they do. I never support the VIP before but I am one who will be voting them back in. If any other of them (NDP, VIP, VIPM, OTHRRS) were in power in a time such as now we would be ten times worse than where some of you claim we are now.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. I wasn’t here so I didn’t vote but layely I’ve been trying to imagine how Myron would have handled the territory during this crisis.

  2. VIP says:

    So who should we believe?
    You or the auditor generals?
I think you should give up the position of finance minister.
Finance ministers are usually ‘tight ‘. They protect the public’s purse. They don’t spend like there is no tomorrow especially on things that are not priorities such as barges, extra expensive insurance for a few, stimulus to non existent farmers and Fisher folk and speech writers.

Absolutely agree, add to this not taking the UK’s offer of free border protection, bringing in Cuban doctors when you could have had medical help from the UK, after all, the BVI is British.
This governments consistent racist agenda is what’s ultimately caused the COI to occur, and, I think we all expect the UK to ultimately clean house accordingly.

Such a stupid comment. Fahie cannot bring in UK doctors. It’s not that easy. He can ask for assistance but it’s not a guarantee that they will help. UK can send doctors if they so choose like you said after all we are British. The BVIHSA has many advertisements seeking help from retirees and anybody with experience and medical skill. The offer was extended to anyone including the UK. The governor lives in the BVI and is aware of our circumstances and is a part of all cabinet decisions and national security council. The governor can request help for the BVI at any time but it seems like UK’s help is limited to armed security and vaccines.

‘Ultimately surface’, ‘top secret’, ‘we’re working on it’, ‘you will see soon’, ‘we have a comprehensive plan’, ‘no cronyism at all’! Darn Brother, when will you actually reveal ANYTHING to the people or even tell us the truth for once?!

No matter how much extra time you’re trying to buy we won’t listen. Because the only truth that we know for sure is that the words that comes from your mouth are lies and tricks!

I see Mr Premier you you spending a whole heap of time defending your faulty policies. Why not take half the time showing us the loud majority that you are actually working. Ot by words sir, but by actions. Everytime we the majority become critical of you non action you jump on the news media to refute. Sir strong leaders refute by action, not words. Gone already.

So I read this and I summarize it to “f you we not doing any better” Really hoping the COI find enough evidence to prosecute. Not sure if we can last until 2023 under this administration that cannot even see where it went wrong so how they gonna fix anything.

Every time the Premier opens his l**ng mouth the words that come out says GUILTY of all the criticisms. So he does not want us to believe what we are seeing practically every day. This government gives out contracts in secret, give stimulus to undeserving people, engage in getting alternate insurance for his assembly at tax payers expense and now want to get political advisers at $120,000 pa. You know who will get those positions? People in Andrew circle. So we must not believe our lying eyes. Andrew you need to step down. You are a disgrace a total disaster.

Why do you as a leader feel it necessary to respond to every criticisms that comes your way or the government’s way. People resound to actions, plans for a way forward, a three month, 6 month 1 year version of what you and this government plan to do for the country. You are wasting your time responding to every critic. The opposition is doing what they are suppose to do, bring matters to the for front that they feel that the people or to know. Do your JOB and stop this school yard nonsense.

Andrew Fahie said he did not feel it was up to persons to measure the degree of his administration’s love for the people of the BVI who else can measure it I hoped you don’t think it’s your administration because we the people are the ones who is feeling the entire BS your administration dose. If you had a love for the BVI or its people you won’t be doing the crap you are do with the taxpayer’s money. The kids have been going to school in ware house since 2017, the BVi haven’t had a Library for years but you were talking about building a building for the performance of the arts, the Palm Grove Shopping center was destroyed in 2017 from what I understand it’s the government responsibility to rebuild it, it’s been 4 years, Packwood Pond dump is an embracement to the BVI and not good for peoples health, the sewer is not addressed, I can go on and on but you know all of this. My Grandmother use to tell me if most people you know don’t like you, you are the problem because everyone else can’t be wrong. We are praying for the day when the COI returns and deliver us from your government.

But, let him continue fooling himself, bc he is not fooling the voting public.

  17. Why not give some specifics.... says:

Mr. Fahie…. The people of the BVI would like to know what you are doing to help the hospital in this time of need. Why much needed equipment for the hospital (not just covid related) is not there, why people have to go to private clinics for certain scans and procedures that the hospital should be able to handle? The people would also like to know what is being done about the education system. When the schools reopen will the highschool be fully furnished and all children back on full days on the high school campus? If not, WHY NOT? It has been pretty much a year that the school has been closed completely due to the pandemic – more than enough time for ALL the necessary construction to take place to get the children out of the rented and moldy CTL building. What about the primary school in Cane Garden Bay? Have the mold issues there been addressed so the children can move out of the community center and back into the classroom? Today I have seen two articles concerning announcements from government – one from you, and one from the education minister. NONE OF THESE issues are addressed… the education minister chose to talk about the Brandywine Bay Development (and if we look at the parties involved it is VERY DIFFICULT to deny cronyism here)… and you chose to deflect rather than answer questions.

Pathological narcissists can lose touch with reality in subtle ways that become extremely dangerous over time. When they can’t let go of their need to be admired or recognized, they have to bend or invent a reality in which they remain special despite all messages to the contrary.

  20. The Last 4 Govt. says:

Since Lavity passed, we haven’t had a good leader since, The BVI been on a downwards slide since…Every election since they have been getting worst and worst right now we are at the very worst…Real men and women of honesty, compassion, and Character have been missing from our Govt.

    • The Electorate says:

need to make up their mind on what they REALLY want. People complaining about corruption but are hypocrites simply because they receive the election white envelope. The Government is the people; the people are the Government. The people must set the standard then grow and develop from there is a positive progression.

Stop voting for thieves and people who have failing businesses and taking the opportunity to get into to Government to tief cash flow bit by bit with the tax payer being the co-guarantor for personal F-Ups.
