Premier slams politically driven narrative about ’ineptitude’

Governor John Rankin and Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley.

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has dismissed claims that his government has demonstrated a level of ineptitude and indifference in its approach to governance, security and accountability to residents of the territory.

In fact, Dr Wheatley described those claims as being part of a politically driven narrative and urged that persons instead focus on the good things that are happening within the territory; effected both by persons in leadership positions as well as the rank and file members of society.

“I don’t think that’s a narrative of a majority of persons in the society,” Dr Wheatley expressed. “A small minority. Perhaps [a] politically driven, convenient narrative that persons are promoting.”

The Premier pointed to the work being done by public servants, statutory bodies, the assistance provided by the United Kingdom government and also the efforts of the elected government.

He further commented that, while there are challenges and a difficult job ahead given the improvements to be made in certain areas, the territory continues to be a great place to live and work.

The Premier stated firmly that his government will continue to do the best job possible for the people.

“There are lots of great things about our society and a lot of good things being done by persons in positions of authority,” the Premier said. “All of the things which are challenging shouldn’t overshadow a lot of the good which is taking place in this territory.”

Meanwhile, Governor John Rankin commented that he too did not recognise that picture of ineptitude in governance that was painted of the territory and argued that this claim did not reflect the reality of the territory’s position.

Governor Rankin said while he recognised that there are challenges facing the territory, neither himself, the United Kingdom, Premier nor the Police Commissioner have been ignoring those challenges.

He also agreed with Premier Wheatley that there is always more to do in terms of the territory’s security, however he said no country is free of crime.

Actions speak louder than words Mr. Wheatley. Give us some examples of the “good” things your administration has achieved since there are scant reports of such in the media. Best to stay out of politics if you don’t like criticism or can’t take advice.

  2. Reality Check says:

You will get zero accolades until you finish the implementation of the COI recommendations as you have agreed to in writing to the UK government. Until you light a fire under the prosecution department and fund the hiring of real prosecutors.
Until you stop all of the senseless government spending and only spend money on infrastructure. We don’t need a new terminal in West End with a new loan that doesn’t even cover the cost of construction; we need water, power, roads, incinerator, and sewerage which works.
NO TRAVEL, unless with that travel you can guarantee that it will drive the Governor to take over and clean the house you are continuing to sully!!

I believe ‘ineptitude’ and ‘indifference’ aptly describes the current leadership of this Country at both ‘elected’ and ‘appointed’ positions. I do not believe it is the narrow view of a minority.

To me, it seems to be a very real fact!

  8. Really? says:

No love. The vast majority of well-thinking people think that you’re a bunch of inept, in some instances corrupt, nepotistic clowns and you’re the chief clown full of chat and no action, at least not on leadership of the country. Actions do speak a lot louder than your eloquent chat. Sometimes you just need to listen and and be humble enough to learn.

What have we got for the billions paid into Government since the 1980s? Third World infrastructure and poor state education.

If it’s not ineptitude, it must be corruption.

If it’s corruption, it is something at which the BVI is not inept; because nothing ever happens to stop it, despite the CoI.

My car was in for repair. I rented one for a few weeks. My God, my God.I drove and i drove and i drove. I had no idea. The roads are not roads, they are donkey paths riddled with 12-15 inch deep holes, from the air port to west end and all around the island.

Some holes are so deep that the car floor hits the ground. MY car, within two weeks the suspensions were gone.

It is a clear example of abject and profound neglect by government after government….

This is a symptom ofabject corruption, Noone can convince otherwise. We frig.
