Minister for Health and Social Development, Carvin Malone is Acting Premier of the British Virgin Islands, a government-commissioned release has said.
The release said Malone has been acting in that capacity since Thursday, January 23 and will continue in that post until Tuesday, January 28.
This is because Premier Andrew Fahie has taken time out for ‘personal leave’.
The release continued: “Deputy Premier and Honourable Malone’s appointment is in accordance with Section 55 (1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 which states, “If the Premier is expected to be absent from the Virgin Islands for more than forty-eight hours, the Governor shall authorize the Deputy Premier to perform the functions of the office of Premier; and the Governor shall revoke this authority on the return to the Virgin Islands of the Premier.”
Malone is the final minister on three-month rotation to serve in the capacity of Deputy Premier.
When the rotation comes to an end in March, a permanent Deputy Premier will be chosen.
