Premier to deliver 2026 budget address today

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley will present the 2026 Budget Address today, November 6, under the theme “Pillars of Progress – Building a Sustainable Nation.”

The presentation will be broadcast live at 10 a.m. on the government’s official Facebook page and ZBVI Radio.

The address will mark Dr Wheatley’s third budget presentation since assuming the finance portfolio and continues the administration’s stated focus on sustainability, resilience, and prosperity across the Virgin Islands.

Dr Wheatley said the 2026 theme builds on last year’s “Laying the Blocks of Success,” both of which draw from the National Sustainable Development Plan – Vision 2036: Building a Sustainable Virgin Islands.

He explained that the ratification of the NSDP in February 2023 “was the beginning of our journey to build a sustainable nation… a journey begun by our ancestors and one that will lead to an inheritance that future generations can enjoy, just as those before us once did,” he stated.

The 2026 budget is expected to be framed around the NSDP’s strategic priorities of fiscal responsibility, economic diversification, social development, and environmental stewardship – pillars that Premier Wheatley said continue to guide government policy.

Following the presentation, the complete 2026 Budget Address and related documents will be made available to the public through official government channels.

In last year’s Budget Address, the Premier announced an overall fiscal package of US$382.67 million.

Dr Wheatley previously emphasised the need for fiscal discipline and efficiency in public spending while strengthening social services, infrastructure, and environmental protection – a message expected to continue in this year’s presentation.

The budget address will outline the government’s financial priorities and development plans for 2026.

The premier mentioned a population increase.

Immigration officers have less power than they ever had, vested in it. Many of the order have to slowly trickle up to the singular ‘head’. Meanwhile people are coming in to live at disproportionate rates. deviant behavior, regularly goes unchecked and is not effectively monitored by the officers put in place. Because they simply aren’t given the power to

There is also a lack of housing increase. There are a couple of generations who are still without homes, starting with millennials. We have generations of renters and no one cares. Everyone has jumped on the Western train and forgot that the middle class needs to be nourished. People thirty plus, college educated, one or two kids, still no homes. This is not good news.

Finally defense… how much of the budget has been allocated for defense? ?!
