Premier to discuss plan for possibility of ‘active school shooter’

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley.

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has promised to discuss, with Education Minister Sharie de Castro, the prospect of implementing protocols for a potential school shooting in the territory.

Premier Wheatley made the comment in the wake of a violent incident that occurred at the Elmore Stoutt High School.

“We see some of this phenomena as it pertains to school shootings and things like that, and while we’ve never seen an incident like that here, I do think it behoves us to take notice of the trends taking place in the world and to adequately prepare ourselves,” Premier Wheatley said while responding to questions at a recent joint security press conference.

The press conference was also attended by members of the National Security Council, including its chairman, Governor John Rankin and Police Commissioner Mark Collins.

Collins, in the meantime, said officers of the RVIPF are fully trained and equipped to respond to active shooter situations if they were to occur at any time.

Collins said officers responded to a call from the school about reports of a masked gunman on the premises. “That was the call that came in. So they can respond to that and they do respond to that and they are adequately trained to deal with any scenario that they’re faced with,” Collins said.

He further commented that officers responded within a few minutes of receiving the call from the Elmore Stoutt High School.

“Within a few minutes of that incident being reported… I had a firearms commander, a Chief Inspector at the school dictating the resources and dealing with the incident at the school,” Collins said.

Initial unconfirmed reports suggested that the uproar at the school was caused by the presence of a masked gunman on the school grounds. This resulted in parents rushing to the school in droves to remove their children from the campus.

The Premier and other officials later debunked those reports and explained that there was no gun found on the premises or on any of the perpetrators arrested. It was also noted at the time that the situation was quickly brought under control by officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Give me a big, fat break. This so called leader we have is an absolute disaster. He doesn’t know his head from his foot in that job. BVI why do we continue to elect these people who do not produce? When will we realize that competence is important? Between Natalio and Andrew I don’t know which one is worse in terms of productivity. The country is on a big nose dive and the leader seems to be some where out in space.

that the armed law enforcers in the BVI have this possible situation under control. No need for inept politicians to be involved before, during or after the event occurs.

How about when your friends kids get caught with guns you actually lock them up?

For a territory when gun possession is not legal we should have only a handful of guns in the hands of the criminals (ideally none). Its should be shocking news when guns are found. Instead its a weekly occurence.

Why should the people have to live in a community terrorized by gangters. Preparing for an active school shooter? Are you mad? The message should be sent to the people thay if you they caught with an illegal firearm you are facing minimum 20 years behind bars. This would make people think twice as they cant risk having a significant portion of their life taken from them.

Instead you take a soft approach and there is hundreds of people taking pride in gun ownership. Risks are badges of pride and status.

There is 100 of times more illegal guns person in the BVI than the UK. Sort it out.

The administration of the Virgin Islands is a complete joke It’s a well known and documented narco state.

When one of our own is implicated in drug and gun running instead of bring charges we are so complicent the US is forced to intervine.

Even with the writing on the wall and 2 of our people pleading guilty we still don’t stand up against the behavior and instead allow people to herald them as heros. Too disgusting. Ayo need to check yourself.

The comedy gift that keeps giving! WTF? The first thing that needs to be done at schools, especially ESHS is a proper perimeter wall/fence/gates so that the security personnel can control what happens within the campus. The perimeter wall was stopped, leaving huge gaps within the walls and the gates are old school manual gates. Time to get with the program and stop talking shit.

  5. common sense says:

You all are so foolish, do you know that many schools around the world have done drills and created emergency exits in the case of events like these. But we here in the BVI burry our heads in the sand and act like something like this will never happen. And i hope to God it does not! We all have children and family members attending school and want them to be safe. So think twice before attacking someone who is trying to put safety measures in place. We like to pretend all is well until something happened and everyone hold they belly and blame someone else!

All the Caribbean stooges or leader who attends these meetings abroad has been instructed to do these drills because Americans are scared because of the war it’s raging on other people that it’s Caucasian Americans in the Caribbean could be targeted. There was a drill in a Barbados school that is now facing litigation.

Do not wait until something worst happens
    Good initiative!!
You need to fire a lot of the lazy , inept, go slow dont care department head who are in position too long . They get complacent just counting down to retirement and watching the clock. The majority of them have lost the vibrant spirit to grow their department. Needs ti be proactive
They do care about moving the country forward. Lack of vision
    Not too late
Include a fire drill while yiu are at it

  13. @ CONCERNED says:

that was well said , these pretenders only concerned about spewing out racism / about the UK / the COI and not about our real home
Grown problems that has to be seriously dealth with / or its going to get worse . we can only fool ourselves

  14. Solution says:

Get a secret squad from Haiti when they know who the shooters are kidnap them, not arrest, kidnap and have them go missing, then you will see the gun crimes stop. Serious situations required serious actions.

  15. @E l dread says:

You should be aware that in the Caribbean
Countries there are Muslims and some with ties to HAMAS.
The BVI with its open door fast track installation of every mortal ready for a hideaway and citizenship, is inclusive of countries in the Caribbean with citizens and residents, groups and or individuals, willing and capable of contributing deadly support in foreign matters compatible to their ethnicity and religious beliefs.

    In answer to your question,

How many schools do you see walled in like prisons ?

    Answer:
Schools with a large student body of young Black males in the USA and the UK
The large prison population is dominated by young Black males
    Househods are headed by females
Fathers of children are unknown or if known,he is missing.

The VI have voluntarily and successfilly brought themselves to this
Status commencing with the importation and installation of immigrants en masse, from known places conducive to crime, social and economic instability.
