Premier Wheatley is too fair, says Health Minister
Health Minister Vincent Wheatley has described Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley as a leader who “is too fair”, saying he focuses on issues in all districts, unlike some leaders of the past who only focused on districts represented by government members.
Wheatley’s statement comes amid cries from Opposition members of the House of Assembly who say they’ve been having difficulty getting government funding for programmes and projects in their communities.
“The Premier is a very fair man, sometimes I think he’s too fair because as much as the Opposition is out there talking, they’re never left out! Sometimes, we in government have our districts left out, but Opposition members are getting stuff done. Most of what they’ve got done in their districts is under VIP government, go look up the record,” Wheatley posited as members of the government applauded in agreement.
The Ninth District Representative then listed projects such as schools, housing, community centres and other infrastructure in Opposition districts that were renovated under the Dr Natalio Wheatley administration.
“I’ve seen governments that don’t study any district that isn’t held by their government. I’ve seen that! But our Premier is too fair sometimes,” Wheatley stated.
He also urged the Opposition and members of the public to be patient with the government, saying the infrastructure woes in the territory have existed for many years and are difficult to address.
“Nearly all these challenges we have today are old. They didn’t just happen yesterday. If they were easy fixes, they would have been addressed a long time ago. We’re trying our best to address all these things. The Premier has said [that] although we came to office and met these issues, we don’t plan to leave them there,” Wheatley stated.
