BVI News Online has confirmed that a probe is underway amid claims that criminals serving time at Her Majesty’s Prison are leaving the facility at night.

Usually impeccable sources have told our news team that, on occasions, the prisoners are seen at places such as nightclubs.

When contacted, Superintendent of Prison David Foot said he is cognizant of ‘street reports’ that inmates have been sneaking out of the correctional facility.

He said a probe is ongoing into the matter, but suggested that the inmates have not been given permission to leave the Tortola-based prison.

“I’ve heard from street reports [that they are sneaking out]. I’ve looked into it. Nobody was being let out,” Superintendent Foot said.

He continued: “At the moment, it is intelligence; and that’s all it is. I can’t comment on intelligence. That is something between me and at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.”

Superintendent Foot declined to divulge other information, emphasizing that it is intelligence between himself and the police force.
