PS Morton on leave as probe on Premier’s Office happens

Dr O’Neal Morton

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has revealed that Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, Carolyn O’Neal Morton has been placed on leave while investigations are ongoing by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.

It was just yesterday Governor John Rankin announced he had instructed the Commissioner of Police Mark Collins to undertake several criminal investigations into government departments and agencies as recommended by the Commission of Inquiry report.

One such investigation is into the conduct of the Premier’s Office, under former Premier Andrew Fahie, in obstructing the Director of the Internal Audit Department in respect of her audit of the COVID-19 Assistance Programmes.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Premier Wheatley said: “Currently, the permanent secretary is on leave, while those [criminal] investigations are ongoing”.

When pressed as to why she was being placed on leave, Dr Wheatley said he could not disclose that information as the Deputy Governor, David Archer Jr, would be the best person to comment on the situation.

“It is not my area of responsibility as Premier so you would have to direct that to the Deputy Governor, and I would prefer for him to answer,” Dr Wheatley said.

“The deputy governor told me that she was on leave while those investigations take place,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Premier gave an update regarding the rogue officer who circulated a letter from the Premier’s Office indicating support for former Premier Fahie’s application for diplomatic immunity in the United States Federal Court.
He noted the officer has been found and investigations are ongoing.

“The Deputy Governor would be the best person to give an update on that but as I have been told, that officer has been on leave from the Premier’s Office while the investigation ensues,” Dr Wheatley said.

Every time I am on these ridiculous roads I get so irritated thinking about how much money successive administrations have wasted over so many years. Roads and general infrastructure are crap! My mind doesn’t even want to cross the bridge to other deficiencies we suffer (and get accustomed to because we’re so used to this ‘poverty’ of Government) because I’ll go crazy.

the police force is NOT the best department to conduct investigations since some of them are related to or bought by the disgraced Premier AND HIS CRONIES.

the police force has been bought out. this explains some of their sudden wealth.

His Excellency, need to let England send their own people to handle this affair.

Perfect example, spooners estate. Many corrupt officers name have been circulating for years and unfortunately most of them are still in the police force in active duty. Ongoing investigations are already being leaked and this is very troubling. This raises safety concerns.

There’s no charitable way to look at obstructing that audit honestly. What good reason do you have to block something like that? Someone will have to tell me because I cannot think of one.

On leave with pay?? Seriously, if the Commissioner could not get straight answers from Morton, how on earth will a HMRP officer get answers from the Premier’s Office, with Morton and Najan on leave? The Auditor General could not get answers. So now who will give answers? Are the files intact and in good order?

    • Prosecution says:

They had better get good lawyers because they are now part of a criminal investigation. The answers they need to give may will probably be in a witness box or part of a plea deal. You cannot be so blinded by loyalty to a man who needs to go to the toilet just like you that you become an idiot or make the idiot in you to express itself bearing in mind you may already be an idiot.

  23. Sensible Head says:

Interesting. You are the people in the middle of all the issues in the premiers office and the Deputy Governor puts you on paid leave? Why would he do that? Either they stay and are in post and questioned and provide information or if they are suspects and you have evidence you suspend them without pay. It seems strange to reward them with paid holidays. Hope you took their passports?
DG needs to explain what he is doing here.

  24. Something missing. says:

Is their any penalty for public servants that refused to cooperate with investigators, Some sort of penalty needs to be in place and be made public..Even if they are on leave they are still been paid by us and they owe us the truth…
