Public input needed on revised VI Scholarship Programme Policy

Dr Natalio Wheatley

The Ministry of Education is seeking the public’s input on the newly revised Virgin Islands Scholarship Programme Policy.

The Scholarship Programme, which began more than 40 years ago, has been one of the main avenues through which the Virgin Islands Government has shown its support for the education and training of citizens in the territory.

According to the Ministry, the policy is being revised in recognition of the need to give direction to the programme to ensure sustainability for the education and training needs of the population.

During the Speech from the Throne last month, Governor John Rankin had mentioned that the revision of the National Scholarship Programme was a top priority for the government in the new legislative year.

“To accompany the National Scholarship Programme, the Virgin Islands Government will seek to amend the 49-year-old Scholarship Trust Fund, 1972 and the 38-year-old Regulations, 1983 to ensure both pieces of regulations reflect or ever-revolving society and world,” the Governor said in his speech.

Stakeholders can view the policy on the government’s official website or by using the link: https://bit.ly/vischolarshippolicy. Comments from the relevant stakeholders should be submitted to [email protected] by Friday, February 11.

Start by removing Sam as the chairman of the scholarship committee. You cannot fill up the boards that are so important with your cronies. Sam has absolutely no business as the head of a scholarship committee. NONE! Sam! Are you people serious?
