Public servants thanked for work in ‘less than ideal conditions’

Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr visited the hurricane-battered government building on Jost Van Dyke on April 9.

Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr has completed his tour of Jost Van Dyke – the second of three stops he is making across the territory’s sister islands. His first was on Virgin Gorda.

He visited Jost Van Dyke Administration Building and acknowledged the dilapidated working conditions of public servants.

A government media release about the visit said: “The Deputy Governor thanked the public officers and expressed his gratitude for their services rendered in less than ideal work conditions.”

The release adding that the Deputy Governor also held talks with public workers.

Government employees have been working in buildings that suffered considerable damage from last year’s hurricanes, many of which are infested with mould.

In some quarters where the issue is more prevalent, public servants were not turning up for work because of illness.

On a lighter note, Archer also toured Jost Vand Dyke Primary and visited two of the island’s most senior residents – Joyce and Edith Chinnery who are sisters.

The Deputy Governor’s next stop will be on the island of Anegada. Archer’s visits are part of an initiative to get familiarised with the sister islands.

I would suggest the public workers should have been working to improve their own “less than ideal conditions” rather than sit back and wait for the magic fairy to waft in and sort everything…still drawing a pay cheque and yet not coming in too work is not acceptable, a bit of mold and its “cough cough – can’t come to work because of my asthma!” 6 months on and JVD police station looks shambolic! step up public/government workers and lead by example….and stop making excuses for your laziness
