Resignation rumours false! I will serve to full term — Vanterpool

Mark Vanterpool

Amid rumours circulating locally that Mark Vanterpool has resigned as the Representative of the Fourth District, the legislator has sought to categorically deny those claims.

In a statement dated Tuesday, June 14, Vanterpool described the rumours as “false”.

“I wish to make it very clear to my constituents of the Fourth District and BVI public that I have not tendered my resignation from the Fourth House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands. In the recent past, I have stated that I do not wish to run for office following this term. It is, therefore, my intention to serve this term in full,” Vanterpool stated.

“I am honoured to continue to serve the constituents of the Fourth District and the people of this territory as a senior member of the Fourth House of Assembly and as a statesman as I have been recently saying,” he added.

The self-styled statesman further said: “I will also continue to advise the Unity Government as best as I can during the rest of this term. Let me repeat, I wish to reassure my constituents in the Fourth District of my commitment to continue to serve in my best capacity for the duration of this term. Reforms for any growing country are necessary.”

And as the territory, particularly government, undergoes a number of reforms triggered by the recent Commission of Inquiry report, Vanterpool told residents that “growing pains are good pains”.

“US Senator from Georgia, Reverend Raphael G Warnock recently wrote his book entitled “A Way Out of No Way”. Let us reflect on those words. I firmly believe our best days are still ahead. There is hope for the Virgin Islands. So, let’s ‘keep hope alive’, according to Reverend Jessie Jackson’s words,” he ended.

  1. Useless politician says:

First of all, this is one of the most useless politicians as he never shows up and has not done anything substantial to help the BVI move forward. Secondly under his watch the cruise pier terminal overspent $50 million with no explanation of where the funds went. I would not be surprised if he owns a few properties …

  7. Quietly Watching says:

Well, Honourable Sir, maybe you should consider working for your pay. We all thought you already resigned. Don’t hear or see you in the House of Assembly and your District has no representation to hear the people speak on the subject. You are a man of energy and professionalism. Now, though, you have completely lost all interest in being a politician and representative of District 4 and it shows. You are collecting a salary, so do something before you leave, please, and thanks. You are MIA, Man. Not a good look on you.

  8. Sad says:

Sad to read that the news is false and we have to wait longer before this person who stopped representing his district many, many years ago departs. Since he lost power and authority after the 2019 elections he seldom bothers to go to HOA meetings to represent the people who elected him and the wider BVI. And he has the nerve to call himself a statesman! He is washed up – long time now.
He needs to do the right thing and reimburse government the money he did not work for and does not deserve.
Can’t wait to see the end of him in politics. BVI people deserve better.

  9. Stop it. says:

Maybe that’s the hope and wish of the people for you to resign.

  11. boy bye says:

Regardless if he said so or not! He needs to go. I can’t wait for him to be investigated by the COI, for all the money he overspent. (millions).

Suspicious how he has all this excess money to expand and purchase so many businesses all at once, both here and overseas.

Mark finds a fine time to do all this during the COI. he is not a forward thinker at all.

Sure hope the Governor is reading all these comments

  12. My take says:

I’m no fan of Cindy but the saying goes there’s an ounce of truth in every rumor. Mark has been an absentee rep for quite a while now. He was probably trying to hold out for the next few months until election but with the change of the new Unity govt he got fed up. He may have to go 2 years instead. He must have mentioned his plan to leave and somebody leaked it and Cindy got wind of it. That makes sense. Cindy talks a lot but she us usually right.

Well I heard many bad things about Cindy so are they true? I doubt it. That’s probably how the rumor started somebody notice Mark isn’t as involved as he should and run with a story and just like that Breaking News Mark retired. This type of wrong news happen all the time. Just because they no longer see they start assuming the worst. When they see too much they also start assuming. How many times you ain’t somebody say I thought so and so because he always with she that’s how rumors start. No facts no truth just some nosy person assuming too much.
