Slope stabilisation and road rehabilitation projects are being extended to the Ballast Bay area and the area above Bob’s Gas Station in Baugher’s Bay.

They were affected by the September 2017 disasters, and the Recovery & Development Agency (RDA) is now seeking bids for the projects.

The projects will be funded through the Caribbean Development Bank’s $65 million loan to the government.

Bob’s Gas Station slope project

A tender notice from the RDA said the area near Bob’s Gas Station will undergo works to include cleaning and desilting the existing drains within a one-kilometre radius, demolition of the current section of asphalt, and the construction of 35 metres of a reinforced concrete pavement with a 50-millimetre asphalt overlay.

The project will also require the construction of 34-metre long by 2.5-metre high reinforced concrete retaining wall, the installation of 190 metres of reinforced concrete box drains with metal grills, swale drains, concrete kerb walls, and guard rails.

Ballast Bay project

In the meantime, the RDA said works for the Ballast Bay area will include general site clearance and disposal, demolition of the existing section of asphalt and reinforced concrete pavement, demolition of existing reinforced concrete box culvert, demolition of existing reinforced concrete retaining wall, and the construction of 120 meters of reinforced concrete pavement.

The work will also require the construction of a 24-metre long by five-metre high reinforced concrete retaining wall, the construction of 40 metres of river training works, trapezoidal stone pitching and berms to the existing ghut, and the construction of 70 meters of raised reinforced concrete sidewalk, among other things.

“All bids must be accompanied by a bid security in the amount of three percent of the total bid price. Non-submission of Bid Security will lead to rejection of the proposal,” the RDA stated.

Bidding for the Baughers Bay and Ballast Bay-based projects closes on July 14 and 13, respectively.
