Rock Cafe to enter new phase of development and transformation in VG
MHV BVI Group has announced that Rock Cafe in Virgin Gorda will temporarily close on May 31, 2026 for a major upgrade as the company transforms the long-standing property into a substantial hotel and restaurant development.
The move forms part of MHV’s broader commitment to continued investment in Virgin Gorda and follows the April 1, 2026 opening of OneMart Virgin Gorda at Rosy’s Plaza.
According to Chairman Mark Vanterpool, the decision reflects the company’s long-term vision for the property and the wider community.
“Rock Cafe has been part of the Virgin Gorda experience for many years, and we believe the time has come to take the property into its next chapter,” said Vanterpool. “This is not goodbye. This is the beginning of a new phase in a larger vision that has been developing over time.”
The planned redevelopment will include significant upgrades and improvements designed to modernise and expand the overall guest experience while preserving the spirit and energy that made Rock Cafe a well-known destination for both residents and visitors.
Specific details of the development will be shared at a later stage. Rock Cafe has long served as a gathering place within Virgin Gorda’s social and hospitality landscape, welcoming residents, boaters, tourists, families, and friends over the years. MHV acknowledged the loyalty and support the restaurant has received from the community and expressed gratitude to customers, staff, entertainers, suppliers, and partners who contributed to its journey.
“We are deeply thankful for everyone who has supported Rock Cafe throughout the years,” said Vanterpool.
“The memories created there are real, and they matter to us. We fully intend to carry that spirit forward into what comes next.” MHV Group also noted that it remains committed to supporting its team members throughout the transition process and will continue exploring opportunities for staff within its broader portfolio of businesses and future developments. All staff will be compensated fairly according to labour code requirements including full severance pay.
“We are here for Virgin Gorda,” Vanterpool said. “We believe in this community, we believe in its future, and we are committed to continuing to invest in experiences, services, and opportunities that move the island forward.”
As redevelopment preparations begin, MHV says it looks forward to eventually welcoming the community back to a reimagined Rock Cafe experience designed for the next generation of Virgin Gorda hospitality.
