Ronnie needs to be more vocal as Opposition Leader, says Mather

Outspoken Territorial At-Large Representative Stacy “Budda” Mather has expressed that Ronnie Skelton needs to be more vocal in his position as Opposition Leader.

Mather told the Cut Deep talk show that he’s already shared this opinion with Skelton.

“I think he’s able and ready but as I’ve said to his face, he’s not vocal enough. He’s not giving me that energy that I want to see on a consistent basis,” Mather said who is a member of the Skelton-led Progressive Virgin Islands Movement. “I ran on the same party with him, he’s the Leader of the Opposition, the Ronnie Skelton that I knew years ago was a lot more dynamic. I’m not getting that and I’ve vocalised this to him.”

Cut Deep talk show host Cindy Rosan also asked Mather to respond to some sections of the community that have lost confidence in Skelton as Opposition Leader.

Mather responded: “If they’ve lost confidence, they are justified in how they feel. They need to voice their opinion more — not just in public but to him. Honourable Skelton moves around in the community, tell him you want more from him.”

Skelton – a veteran politician – is often hailed for his past performance, especially when he served as Finance Minister.

However, since returning to office in 2023, many have criticised him for his non-aggressive approach and for not engaging the local media as much as his other colleagues.

Why is it you criticize members when they speak out about their party’s nonchalant attitude? Then when election comes around you hold against them that they did not speak out against the wrongs of their party? This I find to be hypocritical. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. You all just amaze me. The man is taking the preempted position because he knows how small and feeble some minds are. Let him say it as it is please.

Has Ronnie had the main issue of the day fixed yet?
I reallly dont want to here that he is to be subject to the laws of the land any longer. If he wants to smuggle and hide guns and knives in his shoes through our airports and ports he should be able to. Searching him and other leaders like him is going to slow down the drug running economic engine of the VI. Please let him carry on as he pleases without interference. If he has something to hide for goodness sake let him hide it.

  9. Blinded says:

You can’t make this stuff up. Ronnie has always been who he is, but I guess you never paid attention to his past role as country leader. We see the puppets, but never question who are their masters. Don’t be confused by all the fancy talkers.
