ROSAN: Stop complaining and start protesting!

Rosan

Social commentator Cindy Rosan is urging residents to take to the streets to protest what she described as “bad governance” from both the United Kingdom and local elected leaders.

Rosan made that appeal during a fiery Facebook Live session on Thursday, where she encouraged residents to “fight back” and stop “complaining without action.” Her remarks come as another protest is planned against the demotion of Acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool.

Rosan said residents should use the opportunity to take a broader stand against poor governance. “Jackie’s just a catalyst, but this is about governance in this territory and how it’s handled between all local governments and the bloody UK. All of them are the same,” she said.

“There has to come a point when you guys have to fight for yourselves. I cannot do it,” Rosan said during her rant. “You guys are such cowards. Why are you calling me about the Uber Cruise? It’s half a million dollars. Get up tomorrow and march about it.”

Her comments referenced the government-sponsored Soca Uber Cruise event, which she said cost taxpayers approximately $500,000. At the same time, schools and public services are being paused to facilitate the party. “School is closed down to facilitate children to have fun at the Uber cruise. They just shut down the civil service,” Rosan said, arguing that the spending reflected misplaced priorities.

Rosan said she is frustrated by residents who privately complain but fail to take public action. “Stop calling my phone if you just intend to whine and don’t get up and fight for what’s going on in this territory,” she declared. “When are you guys gonna just get up and fight back?”

Rosan, who has become known for using her online platforms to mobilise protests and raise awareness on social issues, said she has “given everything” to push for change in the territory. “I’ve created broadcast groups, I’ve made my platforms available to educate and inform. I don’t care what they call me — I’ve done it anyway,” she said.

She warned that if residents remain passive, “nothing in this territory will ever change.”

In a similar vein, fifty years ago changes were about to be made to the St. Georges Church School Room that would have significantly affected it’s historical character.

I had only recently arrived in the territory, but at a meeting that was called I said that if I were a Virgin Islander I’d chain myself to the church railings in protest. To which Miss Lobell Penn responded with the words, “He’s the only man that speaks any sense around here!”

WTF did you ever organize? Did you ever do a single solitary thing for anyone but yourself? I doubt it. But carry on disparaging those that stand up to be heard. Just don’t try and ride in our wake when change does come.

500K for another party? These jokers in government aren’t tired? When they aren’t giving themselves raising and big bonuses they are wasting the people’s money on parties. So sick and tired of these people man.

    • Credibility??? says:

The issues affecting the people of the Virgin Islands due to decisions made by the local and UK governments are real and credible enough for people to represent themselves in disgust!

Heritage and friends protested the local government based on issues affecting all persons residing in the Virgin Islands and people criticized the camera angle of the live broadcast instead of the lack of representation.

Cline and DeCastro organized this week’s protests and were criticized for not doing it right. Cindy organized a protest at the House of Assembly and was criticized for having selfish motives. Sylvanna protests the regular water woes affecting folks at home and work and she is significantly unsupported, although many are affected.

What is incredible is the way that the love of gossip connects and unites people, but not the love of principles and progress. What is incredible is that the government and other event planners realize that the most important issue that unites people of the Virgin Islands is entertainment!!!!

It is also incredible that after all the complaints and gossip, which is the entertainment that fills the gaps between parties and events, folks don’t support actions that will create solutions to the many challenges experienced.

We live in a time where the masses call good bad and bad good because many are called, but few are chosen by God to defend goodness, justice, principles and truth. How much more credibility do we need in order to DO BETTER???

Make it sense. Honestly, people make their own decisions. If they agree with what is being said, they can decide how they will address the issue. Force, expletives and name calling are highly unnecessary.

the distinct layers with the name calling and disrespect for Belongers by indigenous

They are used, abused, dropped like hot potato when it suits the level of support needed by locals

The deep underlying dislike is destroying the nation Too many different layers

People are disgusted with the government
The indigenous try to keep down each other and side with the belongers when it suits their interests

Can a nation ever be unified like this ? Each one is treated with distinction through disrespect

Can a march for a common goal get the population to be behind them?
See the turn out it says a lot a country of over 30 thousand not even threr hundred people
Not enen her own local showed up
    A mere trickle.

  10. Lodger says:

So its a cruise ship with passengers just like any other. So why do govt need to spend 500k for the passengers to walk through town. Are other ports on the cruise spending money?
