Royal Knights crowned kings of local T20 cricket

Royal Knights Cricket Club are the champions of the 2019 BVICA-NAGICO T20 Tournament.

Led by captain Joemal Lafleur’s superior batting display of 98 runs from just 38 deliveries, Royal Knights blasted their way to a record total of 280 runs for seven wickets to defeat Road Town Wholesale (RTW) by 101 runs.

Lafleur’s player-of-the-match performance included nine sixes and eight fours. Following him in the runs tally was Anthony Slowley who contributed a quick 44 runs from 15 balls, inclusive of five sixes and three fours.

In reply to the massive 280 target set, RTW was restricted to 179 for seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Sylvestor Mitchell was the lone star batsman for RTW; top-scoring with 76 runs. But it was Royal’s Reno Mitteholzer who took the spotlight in the second innings; ending with bowling figures of four wickets for only 27 runs from his four overs bowled.

Cavs win third-place playoff

Meanwhile, in the third-place playoff, Cavaliers defeated Grenada by just two wickets in a match which went down to the wire.

Batting first, Grenada posted 189 runs for seven wickets from their 20 overs with Gary Pierre-Prince leading the innings with 67 runs.

For the Cavs, Avishkar Sewkarran was the pick of the bowlers, ending with figures of three wickets for an impressive nine runs from his four overs bowled.

Needing 190 runs for victory, player-of-the-match Sewkarran completed an outstanding all-round performance with the bat, tallying a top score of 67 runs as the Cavs ended on 190 for eight wickets with three balls to spare.

Tournament Stats

Richard Fredericks of the Royal Knights ended the competition as the tournament’s most valuable player. He collected the most runs with a total of 479. He had an average of 59.88 and a high score of 155 runs.

The tournament’s leading wicket-taker went to the Cavaliers’ Jagnarine Persaud who ended with 18 wickets. His best bowling figures of the tournament was five wickets for 15 runs.

Cameron Williams of Vincy Cricket Club was the best fielder of the tournament with nine catches, one stumping, and two run-outs.
