RT post office flooded, closed till further notice

Flooding inside the General Post Office at the Maduro Building in Road Town has halted all operations at the facility.

The post office is now closed until further notice.

The flooding is believed to have happened overnight between Sunday, July 22 and Monday morning, the Government Information Service (GIS) told BVI News.

“The post office closed on Sunday so I don’t know if it took place then. But, when they (post office workers) came in this morning, that’s what they found,” GIS’s Chief Information Officer, Desiree Smith explained.

Smith said the flooding appears to be from a broken pipe — that was the unofficial report the GIS received from the Postmaster General, Pasha Stoutt.

Authorities gave no clear indication of the extent of the flooding or when the post office will resume operations.

“Government does not shut off all operations for small issues. So, it might have been to a certain degree where it might have incumbered operations and the public might not have been easily facilitated in a normal way,” Smith said.

BVI News was unable to access the building when journalists visited the location Monday morning.

Please put the mail in our nice, dry PO boxes while the Main RT Post Office is closed due to flooding. Thank you.

When it rains, it pours. Is this the BVI snake bitten or it is reaping what was sown?

@Help You talking about don’t close Sewage water does be in the road most of the time.Inside that building is moldy and plus air-condition not functioning properly so tell me if you would work in that condition if so apply for a job so the post office will remain open.

Post office is just shameful. 10 months since Irma, not one delivery to a post box in that time. No plans to repair them. Conditions in the post office itself continue to deteriorate until this, and nobody ever seems to want to fix anything. Even before this conditions in the post office were diabolical.

Where is the postmaster general? Who is responsible for this mess? What is the plan for getting it fixed?

The Post Office is in disarray – sort the mail and put it in the PO boxes that people have paid for… Surely that’s not too difficult!
