Rymer says road conditions unacceptable, vows repairs
The government has once again acknowledged that road conditions across parts of the territory are unacceptable, with Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer offering a public apology to residents and businesses affected by deteriorating infrastructure.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Rymer said the administration would not seek to justify the current state of some roads, describing the situation as below an acceptable standard. “I will not offer excuses. The state of some roads is unacceptable. And I do apologise for the disruption this has caused residents and businesses,” Rymer stated.
Better is coming
The minister said the government was taking steps to address the problem, including short-term remedial work and longer-term infrastructure projects. He said targeted road patching was expected to begin shortly, following delays linked to operational challenges at the government’s asphalt plant.
“Some delays were caused by challenges with our asphalt plant,” Rymer said. “These issues were not the result of negligence or any desire to leave people uncomfortable. I assure you that better is coming,” he added.
Rymer outlined several Cabinet-approved projects to improve road conditions. He said a contract had been signed for works at Sabbath Hill and that Cabinet had approved the overlay of the road from the West End Ferry Terminal to the Road Town Ferry Terminal. The works are expected to include new road markings and reflective centre-line markers.
Sewage improvements
The minister also pointed to progress on sewage infrastructure, which he said would support road and community development in affected areas. He said the second leg of the sewage project from Paraquita Bay to Long Swamp had been signed and that the first leg of the East End/Long Look Sewage Project would be commissioned next week.
Road conditions have been a long-running concern for residents, with repeated complaints aired in public forums and media reports over recent years. Delays to road rehabilitation works and public frustration over potholes and uneven surfaces have continued to affect daily travel and vehicle maintenance.
Rymer said the government remained focused on repairing roads and delivering infrastructure that supports daily life and economic activity.
“The government remains committed to protecting and expanding air connectivity, repairing our roads, delivering critical infrastructure, and improving everyday services that support our economy and quality of life,” he stated.

I vow repairs to the road, but if the premier schedule those funds for a party or traveling it would not be possible to fix the roads, he holding everyone hostage as an unqualified finance minister.
And his soldiers, aka, Ministers have no problem with his partying our money away while the whole place turns into a dump. They will never say publicly that they are disappointed that they are not getting funds to do their projects or their initiatives but party money is there in abundance. The Hon. Communication Minister and Minister for Health are taking a lot of blows, but for their personal power and success, they sit down quiet. We need new politicians who care about Country first and themselves after. It is quite disgusting the state of disrepair of our roads.

I like kye but he is a failure as works minister, he can’t even fix the roads in his own district, why is the stretch of road by the Jehovah Witness church filled with 3 giant potholes that were cut by Water & Sewage to fix pipes. It’s been months now and we have to dodge these holes every time we drive through there. Meanwhile tourists are taken up that road, they must be laughing when they see how bad it is
HAHAHAH, ISN’T HE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING DONE? WHO HE TRYING TO BLAME… if you build it to last 3 weeks what you expect… before they bring it proper engineer and get the job done correctly and stop wasting taxes payers money doing nosense.

I am tired like the rest of you, so me and my vehicle don’t need any more promises. We just want to see things being done. Sea Cows Bay, Meyers Estate, Huntums Ghut, Paraquita Bay, Long Look, West End, Windy Hill Road, Sea Cows Bay (again), are all giant messes. The Premier is proud of the number of tourists that are visiting these islands, but every time I see a bus load of tourists, I am ashame. We must do better. We can do better. I think we need some seasoned representation and put these young, bull headed, do-nothing politicians back out in the working world to get some job experience, ambition and love for country. They don’t have a clue and that is putting it mildly. We deserve better. We will get better. They should all step down to be honest and don’t bother putting their names on the ballot next election. They are obviously in it for the money and they already gave themselves lots of that. Don’t let those delusioned VIP zombies sell their soul again this election cycle. Time to go.
I am of the opinion that accidents and loss of life and property traversing these public ‘roads’ has been a travesty an a high risk to all! I also think that the Minister of Comms. and his departments (PWD, WSD & DMV) should be held accountable and a class action lawsuit be brought against them for degradation of our vehicles and the numerous accidents and losses of life/limbs!
Kye YOU are responsible for the failures of those departments under your purview! I dare say also, that due to your ineptitude and incompetence over the years those whom have suffered by default from bad roads, lack of water and all that MISERY you and your VIP team had caused! Keep your apologies dread….sick of ayo…
