Safe for swimming | Cane Garden Bay Beach now reopened

A section of the Cane Garden Bay Beach.

Nearly a week after being closed because of poor water quality, the Cane Garden Bay beach on Tortola has now been reopened.

A government-commissioned media release issued late Thursday said, “Results of days of water quality testing at Cane Garden Bay and Brewers Bay beaches have shown that the water quality has improved to levels that can facilitate recreational use.”

The beach was closed briefly after a routine water quality sampling conducted by officials from the Environmental Unit, and the Environmental Health Division found it unsafe for public use.

The results from that initial test showed high levels of “bad bacteria counts” at the popular attraction.

Meanwhile, Minister for Natural Resources, Vincent Wheatley commended the officials at the Environmental Unit and the Environmental Health Division for their work in ensuring the beach returned to being safe for recreational use.

He further said water quality testing would continue to be carried out at beaches around the territory to ensure that the health and safety of visitors and residents are safeguarded.

This particular beach has been closed and reopened numerous times in the past due to similar reasons.

No one should swim there. I shake my head in amazement when I see people in the water there

Everytime a cruise ship docks they will declare it safe then close it when it leaves until the next one shows up. Make the Health Minister swim there every day until this ongoing and neglected problem is fixed.
