Salmonella alert | US supplier recalls 207 million eggs

Roughly 207 million eggs were recently recalled to the United States; a country that is one of the BVI’s primary suppliers of eggs.

The US Health Department’s Food and Drug Administration reported Friday that Rose Acre Farms in Indiana recalled the eggs in nine states because of salmonella fears.

Eggs from the affected farm were distributed in Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia and were likely connected to more than 20 reported cases of salmonella infections.

Our eggs are safe

Since the recall, only one local food store has confirmed that it does not receive eggs from the affected distributors.

“OneMart has verified that the eggs we have in stock and those on the way are not from any of the farms listed,” the supermarket said in a media release.

It added: “We will also ensure that our suppliers do not purchase eggs from any of the affected farms for the safety and well-being of our customers.”

According to the release, salmonella is generally contracted from contaminated poultry, meat, eggs and water.

Salmonella affects the intestinal tract and causes serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms include fever, nausea, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

This is why we need to support our farms both poultry and livestock and others. We need local produce. When we cant get produce from US. What will we do? The politicians need to wise up and stop trying to open weed factories. People need food before weed.

Cane Garden Organic eggs have been available at Bobbies; but do run out quickly. I love that store and he has gone the extra for quality food and local. Also, One Mart. Good for them for speaking out and their efforts to include local products. We need to support the stores that do this.

  3. Respect says:

Is that why R—– sky rocketed their prices on eggs?

  4. Hillandale are gross says:

R don’t offer an option other than the gross disgusting caged animal torture Hillandale eggs, their practices are disgusting. Buy the local eggs from Bobby’s and the cage free until there’s an option.
