After nearly two years of being closed to public ferries, the West End Ferry Terminal has finally resumed its operations.

Operations resumed Thursday morning, August 1.

In a statement in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, the Premier Andrew Fahie said, “the facility will be ready to welcome ferry vessels from the United States Virgin Islands, among many other international destinations”.

Daily schedule for the West End Ferry Terminal.

While the terminal is now operational, Fahie, who is the Representative of the First District where West End is located, said a few finishing touches are still to be done at the facility.

For instance, no generator has been purchased for the facility because various suppliers have advised that generators with the required capacity for the terminal are all out of stock. Premier Fahie said quotations are currently being sought, and once the generator is ordered, it will take seven to 10 days to deliver it to the territory.

The legislator also said the construction of additional structures to facilitate a walkway at the ferry dock is 90 percent complete.

Fahie further announced that a restroom trailer for the terminal has arrived in the territory and was transported to the location on July 30.

He said a septic treatment plant was installed for the facility and is already fully functional.

Thursdays reopening of the facility is consistent with previous promises from Premier Fahie back in May.

The West End port has not been operational for public traffic since it was destroyed by Hurricane Irma back in 2017.

This is great news for tourists and residents. Hopefully, there was enough in the budget, and the will, to fix some potholes and clean up. The area has so much promise for everyone.

While you have a point all I can say is just congratulate the government and done. This was not a priority under the last government. Also the road was the first thing they fixed. Good job!

Yes, congratulations to the VIP. I saw the area a few weeks after Irma’s visit and last saw it in March, 2018 so my last impressions are of a place just recovering. If it were not for the Good People at Omar’s and Pussers, the place could have been a ghost town. Hope to be back soon.

Great to have something up and running but this has taken far too long to sort – 2 years a disgrace really and still its not a proper facility – BVI Government you really need to step up and deliver rather than just cheap talk…
