Scholarships for next school year now available online

Dr Natalio Wheatley

The application process for scholarships for the 2021/2022 academic year has officially started and will be processed through the Ministry of Education’s newly-implemented system which allows for real time tracking.

Speaking at Tuesdays session of the House of Assembly, Education Minister Dr Wheatley said this year marks the first time the application process has been hosted online.

He described the shift online as a success.

“The ministry continues to streamline its application processes as part of the ongoing public service transformation plan, thanks to the tremendous effort of the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), the application process has been migrated to a new platform,” the minister said.

“This has resulted in the reformatting of the application form and submission of supporting documentation to make for a more user-friendly experience. With the new system, applicants will be given a user profile and will be able to track their applications,” he explained.

Through the new platform, it enables the ministry to now be able to contact applicants directly through the system, Dr Wheatley said.

How to apply

Persons who are interested in applying for a scholarship can access the applications online on the government’s portal by selecting ‘Featured Services and Information’ then ‘Education and Training’ followed by ‘Scholarships’.

The submission deadline for all applications is October 15, 2020.

Second cohort since 2017

This will be the second cohort of persons to be selected for government scholarships in the territory after the programme halted in 2017.

The 2019/2020 academic year saw 32 persons being awarded scholarships to universities abroad after nearly 100 scholarship applications were submitted.

Dr Wheatley said the high volume of applications was due to the backlog which was created following the halt of the programme in 2017.
