A young man from the Purcell Estate area of Tortola was treated at Peebles Hospital after a red scooter on which he allegedly was trying to escape a police dragnet crashed.

The youngster, who was treated and released from the medical facility, will be charged with a number of offences including reckless driving, and failing to stop at the sound of a police siren.

The police are claiming that they were at the roundabout in Road Town a few days ago when they signaled the scooter rider to stop after they made certain observations in relation to the scooter.

Instead of stopping, the youngster allegedly sped away on James Walter Francis Drive.

The police pursued him.

It is said that his scooter eventually crashed with a motorcycle driven by one of the police officers.

The young man, who fell from the scooter, was arrested and taken to hospital.
