Sections of BVI experiencing power outage! Centre of storm passes
As Tropical Storm Isaias continues to cause adverse weather for the British Virgin Islands, sections of the territory have been experiencing a power outage.
The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) said in a late-evening statement on Wednesday that the Hope Hill to East End areas, the Kingston to Greenland areas, the airport on Beef Island, and Virgin Gorda are without power.
The BVIEC further said the outage is because of “an issue” with its transmission lines from Long Bush to Long Swamp. It did not specify what the issue was.
“Our team has been working to have this issue rectified. Your patience while we resolve this matter is greatly appreciated,” the BVIEC said.
It is not yet clear if power has been restored to any of the affected areas as of yet.
Centre of weather system passed BVI
In the meantime, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said in an 8 pm weather bulletin that the centre of the weather system had passed the territory.
“Due to the immense size of the system, it is still producing gusty winds and squall like conditions across the territory,” the DDM, however, said.
At 8pm, the centre of the system was located 200 miles southwest of the Virgin Islands and was” struggling to develop”.
It was moving to the west northwesterly with a forward speed of 18 miles per hour.
Maximum sustained winds remain at 45 mph with higher gusts. Residents are told expect the possibility of squalls that produce heavy rainfall.
Small Craft Warning remains in place until Thursday.

Good job boys and to the people in charge it’s time the grid is strengthened and buried underground. This should be a top priority of the government. No power, no island.
