Shift system in territory’s secondary schools comes to an end

After two years of operating under a shift system, local secondary school students will return to regular school hours at the start of the new academic year in September.

The shift system was implemented to facilitate students following the onslaught of the 2017 hurricanes on various educational facilities territory-wide.

BFEC

Education Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley told BVI News on Thursday that on Virgin Gorda, students of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre (BFEC) – which has a primary and secondary division – will be almost back to normal.

He said Building number-one on the secondary division campus was renovated with a $1.1 million donation from UNITE BVI and the Cable & Wireless Foundation. This building will now be re-occupied by BFEC’s secondary students.

With that new section now available, the primary school division students who were housed in a semi-permanent modular building will return to their quarters that was previously occupied by the secondary students.

The remaining senior students will occupy a section of the H Lavity Stoutt Community College campus that is located in the Valley on Virgin Gorda.

It is not immediately clear what will become of the semi-permanent building.

ESHS

Dr Wheatley said the refurbished L-shaped building at the original Elmore Stoutt High School campus in Road Town will house junior students of the school, while the senior students will remain inside the old Clarence Thomas building in Pasea Estate.

With these changes, both sections – junior and senior – will revert to normal school hours.

These students will form part of roughly 3,000 who will be returning to a full day of school.

Let us turn the L into a U and return all students to this campus. Or build another L building on the campus next to UP’s

El More has been rearranged to become More L. So build a V shaped building next to the U instead of a P. Then we will have a lot More LUV there. Purfect ain’t it.

My observations on the tour of the school yesterday. First of all I will give honour to where honour is due. Thanks to our former minister, Myron V. Walwyn, for rebuilding the schools.
Second, we still don’t have enough classrooms to go whole day. Only one side of our school is HALF fixed. And Majority of the windows can’t even open because they used the same old windows that got blown out and sprayed it over. And to top it off, the RENOVATED classrooms are leaking and we don’t have any new futures. Oh! And what’s up with that BIG hole in the classroom downstairs??????
I believe when you do something, you do it to your best ability. I had believe in this government but no, they’re all about show and that’s not good! Why are you rushing and the school is not properly fixed?

  10. Don't be concerned says:

Someone fixed his damaged building enough for tenants to move back in. Then with special arrangements, completed the fix while they were there. Made thousands that he would have otherwise not have collected.

I knew some people who started their 3 bedroom, 2 bath house and moved in when 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and the kitchen was done. They finished the house at their own pace when they could afford it but saved thousands in rent.

Why knock the efforts the Premier is making?

Although I get what you are saying, wouldn’t it be best to avoid accidents from occuring by being proactive? You can not stuff students like sardines and compromise air quality and their safety. They are our future so let us behave as though we appreciate their importance. Let’s be smart not swift
