Shortage of emergency medical technicians: BVIHSA hiring, willing to train

The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) — the body that runs the territory’s largest public medical facility, Peebles Hospital — are experiencing a shortage of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

The Health Services Authority said EMTs serves as a “critical link between the scene of an emergency and the healthcare system” considering that they provide out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients.

BVIHSA is now seeking persons to fill the vacancies in that department and said they are willing to train all successful applicants.

“We have several EMT positions to fill and we are looking for individuals who are up to the challenge,” Human Resources Manager for the state-owned medical organisation, Deborah Leslie said.

“Our HR team will be conducting interviews and assessments, so we want persons to bring their A-game,” she said.

Interested persons are asked to attend a four-hour job fair on at Peebles Hospital on Saturday, February 23 at 9 in the morning.

A media release from the BVIHSA said job seekers must be dressed in business attire and must carry relevant documents such as a police record, two letters of recommendation, copy of their high school diploma, and a copy of the picture page of your passport.

Persons are also required to have a valid driver’s licence, and good reading, writing and communication skills. The BVIHSA said applicants must be computer literate, able to work long flexible hours, lift at least 75 pounds, and have the ability to make swift decisions.

Instead of spending money on useless masters degrees maybe we should spend the money on things that will do greater good for society. Pay their way and lock them in for at least 5 years. In the meantime we may have to overpay.

don’t see the blonde hair lady anymore. she was my favorite one of what they have. she know her work and did it like a man. don’t talk about how she handle the ambulance on the road. skilled woman, very professional and always very neat in her uniform. the others carry them self like they dont care dude in the picture is a good example and the two short girls. hope those who will be successful in the job fair will bring their A-game as the HR said. and i hope the pay is right because those people really work hard. what about emts for the upgraded clinic on virgin gorda. when will hiring take place for that facility.

You’re concerned about neatness and looks!? That guy in the picture is highly skilled and I can bet should you ever need your life saved you won’t worry about a few wrinkles in his shirt or a strand of hair out of place!! He’s a very nice individual that makes you feel safe on his call. They are all skilled and needed! It isn’t about how neat they can look at the end of a 12 hour shift! Take your a** from behind the keyboards and try to walk a day in their shoes before you cast your stupid superficial views.
