Similarities in string of robberies fuel frustration over lack of arrests

Armed robbers continue to target businesses across Tortola, with striking similarities emerging in the methods used in several incidents and growing public frustration over the lack of arrests.

Despite the recurring reports of armed men targeting businesses, no arrests have been reported in connection with the incidents outlined below, leaving questions about whether any links have been established between them.

The five incidents include:

  • December 2, 2025: Daylight armed robbery at House of Luxury, Tortola Pier Park.
  • May 20, 2026: Another daylight robbery at House of Luxury, Tortola Pier Park.
  • September 25, 2026: Armed robbery at a business along Blackburn Highway, Purcell.
  • October 10, 2026: Armed robbery at Mr Nice Guy Superstore, Manuel Reef.
  • October 11, 2026: Armed robbery at RiteWay supermarket, Prospect Reef.

The reported circumstances of some of the incidents bear similarities.

In several cases, masked gunmen, sometimes operating in pairs, reportedly entered establishments, threatened employees with firearms, took cash or other valuables and fled. No fatalities have been reported in the five incidents listed.

The robberies at Mr Nice Guy and RiteWay, which occurred on consecutive evenings, have drawn particular attention because of similarities in the reported circumstances. Both incidents occurred shortly before 8 p.m., involved two armed men and reportedly ended with the suspects escaping on motor scooters.

While these similarities may warrant closer examination, it remains unclear whether investigators have established any connection between the incidents. Police have not publicly confirmed whether they believe the robberies were carried out by the same individuals or whether the cases share other significant links.

The incidents nevertheless raise questions about whether similarities in the suspects’ descriptions, methods of operation and means of escape could help investigators determine whether any of the robberies are connected.

For residents and business operators, the prospect of repeated armed robberies is a cause for concern, particularly when suspects remain unidentified. Surveillance footage, witness accounts and other forensic evidence could prove important in establishing what happened and identifying those responsible, although the availability and usefulness of such evidence in each case are not known.

As investigations continue, a key question is whether the reported similarities will help police establish links between the incidents and bring those responsible to justice.

No one can tell me the police don’t know who’s committing these robberies. The police live in our communities, use the same institutions and services. They hear and see things just like the rest of us.

  2. Brad Boynes says:

The police, yes the police are interested only in serving for the minimum 25 years of police work and retire on a reduced pension, then they look for a job in a government statuary body.
They are NOT committed to protecting the Virgin Islands Public. Bi**h now, refute now.

  3. Lol says:

Unlike those of you who hear things…I dont hear nothing bc my pon di corner days been done a long time now…the police need evidence not just melee.

Provide some evidence to them and things will move quicker than just saying them man on the corner have gold chains & scooters so it must be them.
