Skelton Cline urges action over delayed payments to pensioners
Radio host Claude Skelton Cline has urged public officials to resolve reported payment delays affecting some retired public officers, warning that even a modest sum can make a significant difference for retirees facing financial hardship.
Speaking on his Honestly Speaking programme recently, Skelton Cline said he had received complaints from retirees who bank with FirstBank and Republic Bank.
“Those of you who bank at FirstBank, you’re not getting yours. Those of you who bank at Republic Bank because it was Scotia and they have all information and the coordination between Treasury, where you were getting your regular check, and then HR, which was responsible for some. So there seems to be some bureaucratic snafu,” Skelton Cline stated.
He said the situation had added to public frustration over governance and the delivery of government services.
Skelton Cline noted that retirees did not leave the public service at the same salary levels and some depend heavily on their monthly payments to meet basic expenses.
“People are in pain economically. And it may just be $160 to us, but it makes all the difference to that person who is struggling, who is on such a tight budget. It matters,” Skelton Cline stated.
The government previously announced increases in pension payments for retired public officers. Cabinet approved a package valued at more than $6 million, but officials initially delayed the payments after an internal audit found inaccuracies in the calculations.
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley apologised to retirees in July and said the government needed to correct the errors before releasing the money. The administration had already included funding for the increases in the 2026 budget.
Skelton Cline called on government employees and senior officials to improve coordination between the agencies responsible for processing the payments.
“It’s incumbent upon the stewards, it’s incumbent upon the fiduciaries, it’s incumbent upon workers or government public offices that we do a better job, you do a better job of coordinating, of collaborating and coordinating,” Skelton Cline stated.
He also urged the Deputy Governor’s Office and Governor’s Office, which oversee the public service, to intervene and help prevent similar administrative problems.
Skelton Cline acknowledged that several public officers were doing their best with the resources available but said the system must improve.
“We just got to come to a better place than where we currently are,” Skelton Cline stated.

I had to wait to collect my payment and it didn’t cause much stress. So if when you’re traveling and the flight is delayed this is how you react? Pardna you get your th ong in a twist over nothing for what?

For a man who has been paid almost USD1million from our tax dollars over the years for producing absolutely NOTHING he really has a lot to say except apologizing and repaying all that money was paid. Most recently under the Andrew Fahie admin this guy was being paid $16K per MONTH. Here he is now pretending to be sad because pensioners not getting $160. Claude you have no blood, no heart, you are simply a nasty individual to no end. Now because no political party want you around and you’re left to survive off salmon, wings and pizza, all of a sudden you know the plight of the people? Old people always say “God don’t sleep!” and as a so called man of the cloth you should know this. You are reaping the sweet from your past actions.
Claude is the reason pensioners can’t get pay since he deplete the country’s treasury with those fake contracts that had no return on the government investment, millions Claude defrauded the county of and is still been paid as adviser propagandist in secret by natalio.
The selfishness and insensitivity in of a few of these comments is sickening. Some of the retirees have bills, health issues and other things they need money for. We have to do better. Even if we have it we cannot ignore or minimize what others are going through. Instead of fixating on the individual we need to exert the same energy in supporting the retirees affected. Keep the two topics separate.
