Some disappointment for closing night at festival

Scene from the closing night of the 2018 emancipation festivities.

There was some level of disappointment among patrons Friday night during the final concert to bring the proverbial curtains down on the 2018 emancipation festival celebrations.

One of the major disappointments of the event was the untimely news that Trinidadian soca singer Patrice Roberts — one of headlining acts for festival — would no longer be performing at festival because of difficulties with her travelling arrangements.

The news was only delivered moments before her scheduled performance inside the Road Town festival village.

Some of her hit singles such as ‘Like it Like That’, ‘A Little Wine’ and ‘Criminal Wine’ were played to appease her fans inside the village.

Another headlining act on the night was Jamaican dancehall artiste Bounty Killer who performed for the first time in the territory. Based on observations, his performance left patrons generally unsatisfied.

His songs were also laden with obscenities and some appeared to be unimpressed.

He did, however, capture the hearts of some die-hard fans with songs ‘Look Into My Eyes’, ‘They Don’t Know & Corrupt’, and ‘No, No, No’.

The dancehall artiste also had some words of advice to attendees.

“Nothing that you can behold is more precious than your soul. Your self-worth is valued more than your net worth. So never make your net worth lead you to a debt work,” he said.

On the other hand, soca stars from Trinidad & Tobago the A-Team along with local band VIBE had patrons dancing along to their music for hours.

The two acts brought their usual high energy to the stage and lifted the spirits of patrons. VIBE ended the festivities at approximately 3:20am on Saturday.

Giving closing remarks, Chairman of the VI Festival and Fairs Committee Trefor Grant thanked persons who came out to support the festival this year.

Most artists have a fee even if they don’t play. What did this last minute no-show cost?

The money that was wasted on this filth could have gone to help some poor soul repair their roof. The Government’s priorities are NOT in order!
