Some want to see gov’t members fighting — Premier

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has said that despite many people wanting to see members of his Government of National Unity fighting, he is happy things are running smoothly and the members are working together to deliver progress to residents.

Speaking at the Jost Van Dyke Primary School groundbreaking and contract signing Ceremony yesterday, the Premier made specific mention of his relationship with Works Minister and Second District Representative Melvin, ‘Mitch’ Turnbull.

The Premier said he was honoured to have Turnbull on his team and thanked him for all his efforts in representing the people of the Second District, especially those in Jost Van Dyke. Dr Wheatley said even when Turnbull was on the opposite side of the political aisle, he demanded the best of his people.

“And he recognises that up until this point, the people of Jost Van Dyke and the children of Jost Van Dyke have not received the facilities or the education that they deserve. And he would not let us or anyone else rest until we got to this point and to the point where those children will be sitting down in a brand-new facility, ready to learn and ready to take on every task and every challenge that this 21st century presents,” Dr Wheatley said.

“I would want to say some people want to see us fighting but how does the representative for Jost Van Dyke and the Premier and Representative for the Seventh District; how does us fighting benefit the people? The people have just been like; don’t care about us fighting. They want progress for the people. And if we have to work together, fight together, together to make that progress, that is just what we have to do,” the Premier added.
