Spike in gun crimes! A number of illegal firearms in BVI — Police

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is reporting a spike in gun crimes in the British Virgin Islands in recent times.

Police said several incidents involving firearms were reportedly used and even discharged last week alone.

Having already seized 21 illegal firearms for this year, the RVIPF said these most incidents are “evidence that there are a number of these illegal weapons [still] on the street”.

“Sunday morning one week ago, two young males were attacked by gunfire while on their scooters near Spring Bay. Fortunately, neither sustained life-threatening injuries. On Saturday just after midnight, two masked males, both carrying firearms, robbed an establishment in Sea Cows Bay resulting in cash and a handbag being taken. No injuries were reported,” police said in a media release on Monday.

“Later that afternoon, a female reported that her ex-boyfriend pointed a handgun at her, threatened her and allegedly shot at the vehicle she was driving while in the West End area. On the same day, the sound of a gunshot was heard outside the East End Police Station soon after two persons entered seeking assistance for an earlier dispute. One shell was recovered at the scene,” the RVIPF further reported.

It continued: “Last night, three men were arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm after six shots were heard in the Brewers Bay area.”

The police are now appealing to the public for information about the identity of persons with illegal firearms. As it relates to last Friday’s incident, the RVIPF is asking anyone with information to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339.

“All information will be held in the strictest confidence,” police said.

Remember, per all authorities there are no guns in the BVI. Please repeat this statement over and over and over until it sinks in.

      Carry on.

      • you dumb says:

What is that supposed to accomplish not once do the officials say there are no guns.

There are licensed guns and unlicensed guns.

  2. @Nick says:

You’re right but just remember who owns these guns and their relationship to the judges, politicians and cronies. Hard to put a relative in jail. Just normal third world s**t. Happy Holidays!!

I don’t understand why this is so surprising. You can go on any corner or alley in the BVI and buy a gun. YOU GUYS KNOW THE GUNS IS COMING TO THE BVI VIA PORTS BROKEN DOWN IN PIECES PACKED IN FURNITURE AND ASSEMBLED IN THE BVI FOR STREET SALE. INSTALL A CARGO X RAY MACHINE AT THE PORT AND SCAN THE CARGO THAT IS COMING IN, YOU WILL GET YOUR ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM. BUT, NO ONE IS GOING TO DO THAT.

That is the stupidest statement ever. Most of our judges, police, prosecutors aren’t even from here. The prosecutors are mostly on short term contracts so most cases they are never related. The prosecution are the ones that charge people with a crime. The judge determines the convicted criminals punishment. I would say less than 99% of BVI judges and prosecution including magistrates have been local.

How about the Royal police and their licensed firearms…or have you forgotten the last major drug bust.

  3. Hmmm says:

If I have to call that number and hear a local or a familiar officer answers, I’ll be hanging up. Get a special team from outside for taking those calls and handling them. I don’t trust the local police. A few of them are very well associated with the drugs dealers and person that are involved in illegal activities.

Me and you both. I call that number and report what I know or see, I will have to be looking over my shoulders when I leave my home or constantly checking my rear view mirror in the event that someone is following me ready to cause my car to run over a cliff. THEN THEY WILL BE SAYING MY CAR RAN OVER THE CLIFF BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE. NAWWWWW, I’M GOOD. I DON’T TRUST THE LOCAL POLICE ONE BIT.

The police needs to invest in an anonymous 1800 hot line number to receive tips so that there can be no tracing back to individuals in this small society.
