St Vincent man assaults lover for rejecting him, offender denied bail

Randy Butler being escorted from the Magistrate’s Court.

A St Vincent and the Grenadines native was not granted bail after he destroyed a cellular phone and assaulted his lover who reportedly gave him ‘the cold shoulder’ last Friday.

Charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage is 43-year-old Randy Butler.

Butler pleaded guilty to both offences when he appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo on Thursday.

Preamble

The court heard that the couple who are both natives of St Vincent and the Grenadines was introduced through a mutual friend.

Butler resided at Long Trench on Tortola while the 30-year-old female lived in her country at the time and used social media and WhatsApp to communicate.

Roughly two to three weeks later, the offender purchased an airline ticket for the woman to travel to the territory. She arrived on August 4.

When she arrived, she reportedly spent four nights at the offender’s Long Trench home.

However, the couple got into a misunderstanding, and the woman in question moved out and went to live with a friend.

What the court heard happened

The court heard that on the night of September 13, Butler and the complainant crossed paths at a party in Old Plantation on Tortola.

He reportedly tried to speak to her. However, the woman was not interested in having a conversation with him, the court heard.

The offender reportedly responded by grabbing her cellular phone and throwing it into a wall which caused it to shatter.

He reportedly told her, “I want my money for the ticket that I bought you,” and allegedly made threats to end her life. the court heard.

Butler’s actions caused a disturbance so he was thrown from the party.

The court heard that then Butler hoisted a rock and pelted it at her which caught her on the side of her head.

The complainant was later taken to the hospital where she was treated for a laceration to the head and soft tissue swelling to the area.

She reportedly incurred a bill of $1,494.87 at the medical facility.

The unrepresented mason worker is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday.

He should thank God she stayed at his place for 4 nights. He got back his place ticket he so ugly and look terrible the poor woman couldn’t take it any longer . But on a serious note the bvi is in some serious troubles down the road. This place is becoming the drama house and government turning a blind eye. Andrew was asking Myron what plans the government have in place for these men that came in the country after the Irma right now I’m asking the premier the question. Are we going to wait until the place get worse before sorting out a plan?

That’s why the Government should have issued those post Irma work permits with CONDITIONS that it was only to be for the recovery period so these people had no expectation of remaining. I remember Julian Fraser was raising this same issue. I am an expat and it made sense to have a limitation on those work permits.

Also, sorry but there something with the Vincys…these people come with a different mind and heart….not easy at all. How many times the.same thing have to happen before we admit there is something wrong?

I don’t know but if I need someone on social media and form a relationship I’m going to think either I’m going to get used or use the person. Come on man what do you expect from the woman? You wanted some help and she wanted the same why couldn’t you move on. Women get used all the time and move on , why are these Vincy men think they are so special. Time for them to start sending them back one by one before the place have to open a prison and a burial ground for Vincentian.

I am saddened that the young lady got injured and hopes she gets better soon.

This incident is one of many that has hit the courts and reported in the media where ladies are assaulted after getting gifts or a loan and not being receptive to the romantic demands of the giver of the gift or loan.

Was the ticket a gift or a loan to pay back at some point in time?

Ladies, please be very clear about what you agree to when entering such agreements. You may not get out of it alive when you do not fulfill his perceived thinking about what he should get in return.

NOTHING in this Life is for free.

My mom told me that over and over when I was very young and believe you me I got it then and I still got what she meant now!!!

In some cases and to give the benefit of the doubt for the young man who lost his temper. He may have been led to believe that the ticket was in exchange for a romantic relationship. Unfortunately, no mention was made of such or her intention to pay him back in the information released to the public.

I DO NOT CONDONE VIOLENCE AT ALL. He should have walked away!

    Warning to the wise!

    Warning to be wise!

Times are hard and rough here ok!
I do not condone what either of them did.
You cannot use this and say that this is how Vincentians are. A lot of Vincentians came to the Bvi and made it the prosperous territory it is today. What would the Bvi territorians would’ve done without the outside help.
What transpired between both people is wrong. Let the law takes its course.
Now! Concerning the statement where the person is asking for the government has to impose visa restrictions.
If the head territory the UK is not imposing Visa restrictions on our Blessed St. Vincent and the Grenadines, do you think that can easily be done by the BVI’s government?
    Ask yourself that question!
And remember we have one of the smartest and most influential Prime ministers in the Caribbean.

You must be turning a blind eye…the stats will show that is how Vincentians are!

    • ToThe Brave says:

A misconception being peddled by many, Caribbean natives, but especially Vincentians is, that, they are responsible for the development and prosperity of the BVI.

That onits own is a totally false and misrepresentative misconception. For example:

      1) when 90% of 1000 individuals salary leaves the counrty on a weekly basis, now multiply that times one year, times many years. How does that exportation of money helps develop the country it was earnd in?

The mother economic prosperity was birthed on August 1st 1834 in the for the BVI. That is the day our ancestors began putting down the economic foundations that has led to hotel, financial, offshore banking and other industries. Vincy’s played no role in that.

Further, they innovated means shpwrighting, farming and other means and ways of trade between the USVI, PR, DR, Trinidad and as far away as Surinam.

They did not wait for a few economic migrants to enter the BVI from the south to work and export its meager resources to then turn ungreatefully around and expouse economic construction claims.

Summarily, the first set of southerners to settle here and meanigfully contribute to the economic growth of the BVI were Antiguaians, Kittians and Barbadians. Some Trinidadians followed after.

The Vencentian, Dominicians, St. Lucians and Spaniards and oters are the new comers, and they take away and send away more than they contribute to the growth and development of this country. Those are facts.

Hence, The economic development of this country involves a wide range of sources. They range from Europians, Americians, investors from the Far and Middle East, Asia and the UK.

The Black southerners’ contributions exist exclusively in labour and construction fields. If you think those two areas are what made the BVI a peosperous country, then clearly your history bank is in the red.

  31. Correction of a Misconception by Some "Caribbean People." says:

A misconception being peddled by many, Caribbean natives, but especially Vincentians is, that, they are responsible for the development and prosperity of the BVI.

That on its own is a totally false and misrepresentative misconception. For example:

    1) When 90% of 1000 individuals’ salary leaves the country on a weekly basis, now multiply that times one year, times many years. How does that exportation of money helps develop the country it was earned in?

The mother of economic prosperity was birthed on August 1st 1834 for the BVI. That is the day our ancestors began putting down the economic foundations that has led to hotel, financial, offshore banking and other industries. Vince’s played no role in that crucial historical period.

Further, they innovated means shipwrighting, farming and other means and ways of trade between the USVI, PR, DR, and Trinidad and as far away as Surinam.

They did not wait for a few economic migrants to enter the BVI from the south to work and export its meager resources to then turn ungratefully around and espouse economic construction claims.

Summarily, the first sets of southerners to settle here and meaningfully contribute to the economic growth of the BVI were Antiguans, Kittians and Barbadians. Some Trinidadians followed after.

The Jamaicans, Vincentians, Dominicans, St. Lucians and Spaniards and others are the new comers, and they take away and send away more than they contribute to the growth and development of this country. In fact, most contribute very little. Those are facts.

Hence, The economic development of this country involves a wide range of sources and human nationalities. They range from Europeans, Americans, investors from the Far and Middle East, Asia and the UK.

If we were dependent upon the southern caribbean migrant for up grade in our economic standard of living, we would still be as poor as they are. We would be also be economic migrants roaming the world looking for a new uprising, a greener pasture, a new beginning.

So please spare us with “we develop the BVI into its current state of prosperity” none sense.

The Black southerners’ contributions exist exclusively in the labor and construction fields. Indeed, there are also expertise in education, business and law, but those are not the foundational discussional issues here.

If you think those two main areas are what made the BVI a prosperous country, then clearly your history bank is in the red.
