Still circulating? Police discover counterfeit cash in West End

BVI News understands that the police recently recovered a quantity of counterfeit US$100 notes in an abandoned building on the western end of Tortola.

Our news centre was not able to determine the total number of notes recovered by the cops. It is also unclear whether the counterfeit cash made its way into the community.

Reports are that the cops arrived at the house after they received a tip about the location of the counterfeit cash.

A search was carried out and the counterfeit cash was reportedly found on the first floor of the building.

High placed sources told our news centre the cops seized the notes.

BVI News has not ascertained whether anyone was arrested for the fake cash or whether the police are investigating further.

Just weeks ago, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force issued a warning to businesses and banks to be on the lookout for circulating US counterfeit notes in denominations of $20, $50 and $100.

The police urged businesses, banks and the general public to do the necessary screening before accepting these denominations.

Persons in receipt of any counterfeit currency are asked to contact any police station or RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.
