Stop dumping garbage in ghuts!

City Manager Janice Brathwaite-Edwards has lamented that persons continue to dump garbage in the drainage system around the territory, adding that such practice contributed to the severe flooding experienced in Road Town early this month.

She therefore issued an appeal for persons to desist from disposing of their waste improperly.

“One of the concerns that we have from the city’s perspective is that we notice that there is a lot of garbage been thrown into the ghuts, and that helps to choke the ghuts which causes them to backup, which causes an amount of flooding.”

“So we want to ask people in general to put the trash in receptacles so it could go to the dump site, and not to throw garbage in the ghuts. When you have rain like this, the ghut brings down everything,” added Brathwaite-Edwards.
