‘Suspicious’ boat fires attract Criminal Investigations

Not any of the actual vessels mentioned in the article.

Over the last 24 hours, at least seven vessels on Tortola were destroyed by fire in two separate incidents fire, capturing the attention of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

A media release from the RVIPF said the CID has since launched a probe into the two incidents which they have described as suspicious.

One of the vessel fires happened in Freshwater Pond, West End while the other happened at Road Reef.

“In the fire near Big Ben’s Gas Station reported just before 10 pm last night, two boats were destroyed and one partially damaged, while at Road Reef Marina, a fire reported around 5 am this morning destroyed one catamaran and four motor vessels,” the police stated.

“CID detectives are asking the public for any information that can help in identifying the perpetrator(s) or anyone concerned in carrying out such acts to provide that information confidentially through CrimeStoppers by calling 800-8477 (TIPS) or if overseas call 1-284-800-8477,” the RVIPF added.

  1. Evil lurks in these islands says:

There are some very dangerous people in these neck of the woods. Clearly there is an arsonist at play here causing this much property damage. If they can cause so much property damage, what else are they capable of?

IMO, this should not be a hard case to solve if properly investigated. I suspect there is some dispute between the owners of those boats and some other person(s), and those other person(s) have chosen this path to settle their dispute.

I hope the RVIPF find whomever is responsible for this and take them off the streets asap before someone gets killed.

Bystanders have been caught in the middle before and sadly, majority of people didn’t care. So it’s nothing new.

type of arson. Unknown smugglers light up 3 boats out west so they retaliate by lighting up 7 boats in Town a few dark hours later. All in a night’s crime spree. What’s next??
