Sylvia Romney-Moses announced as PVIM’s candidate for First District

Sylvia Romney-Moses

A final candidate has been added to the Progressive Virgin Island’s Movement (PVIM) team.

The party announced former Director of the BVI International Affairs Secretariat, Sylvia Romney-Moses, as its candidate for the First Electoral District.

“Sylvia brings to this team a vast amount of experience and leadership qualities,” said party leader, Ronnie Skelton who announced her candidacy on Friday evening.

Her campaign kicks off in the First District community of Capoon’s Bay on Saturday, February 2.

The addition of Romney-Moses now brings the number of candidates on the PVIM team to nine. There are a total of 13 electoral seats up for grabs during a BVI general election.

Meanwhile, the remaining slate of PVIM candidates comprises clergyman Curnal P Fahie, engineer Shaina Smith, Horse Owners Association president Lesmore Smith, and Skelton who are all At-Large contenders.

The party is further fielding sitting legislator Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull to seek re-election in the Second District; taxi operator Karl Scatliffe who will vie for the Fourth District; recently-resigned Commissioner of Customs Wade Smith for the Fifth; and former Deputy Projects Manager in the Ministry of Finance, Jose de Castro, who to contest the Ninth District seat.

Well, if I was a District Rep. Of 20 years tenure, nobody was spending precious money on a bathroom in a cemetery when the Cappoons Bay School is the same since the early 70s. Not even an extra classroom or bathroom. But a nice wall was built around it. Since we are giving Hon. Skelton credit for the bathroom in the cemetry, we should go ahead and give him credit for the idea of renaming the clinic, in fact island wide for it was surely his idea. The new style politician is so busy worrying about next election that they neglect their daily responsibilities. They should sit down and map out plans for their District that is beneficial to all since we all pay taxes. This tax refund system for some on the down low is unethical, illegal and frankly corrupt.

Fahie deserves another four years. If it wasn’t for Fahie the NDP would have hidden all their wrong doings and we the BVI public would not know half of what we know now like that $7.2mill plane deal that was no good from the start among many other questionable acts by the NDP of which her leader was a part of and didn’t say anything.

Hon. Ronnie Skelton publicly said out of his own mouth the NDP government squandered tax payers money and the airplane investment was a bad idea. Now tell me people and especially voters of these lovely BVI. Wasn’t Hon. Skelton apart of the same government that he now claims squandered taxpayers money and made bad investments??

How come all of a sudden he have so much to say when he said NOTHING to the people to bring light of these things. I don’t know about the rest of you all but this does not sit well with me. Who’s to say he wouldn’t do worst IF he becomes premiere. People you better pay close attention to these individuals when they speak.

I agree with you. The facts are whether Hon Fahie in or out…he ALWAYS working with and trying for the people of the first district…I was a reisdent of the first district and Hon Fahir always driving through the district at least once or twice a month minimum…checkin the people…talking to the boys on the block…and I am talking outside of election season…if you go to him for help he will try to see what he could do for you…try to talk to the higher ups…the people of the first district know Hon Fahie aint just sit back and do nothing…even if they don like him or they not for VIP…you gotta give jack his jacket…he spearhead and do alot for the first district after Irma even if he was being strategic about it…he did the work….the first district was like an orphan and a step child after Irma…the NDP minister didnt pay attention to the first district tall tall….the roads the electricity the dock…no water…then the cox heath fire…its like we was cut….Fahie deserves to be re elected because he tried when he was Leader of the Opposition…he expose alot of crookedness that was going on…I like and respec these ladiea but sorry HON FAHIE HAS EARNED HIS KEEP AT LEAST FOR THIS ELECTION. It is obvious that he couldn get more major things done in his district cos his party was not in government but he still tried…and anybody who say differen is lying to themself or in denial..whether he should be Premier…I will leave that to God.

However for the people of the first district to move fahie now will be the craziest and stupidest political move ever. People need to learn to fend for themselves instead of stretching out their hands looking for handouts from our politicians. And the politicians need to STOP the practice of giving out a fistful of dollars to buy votes.

It is high time that our people stop voting their favorite candidate, their friend, the family friend, the one who hands out material goods most generously, and vote for people of stature, of integrity. Our Territory needs people who can defend themselves whether locally or on an international platform. If we continue the trend of voting foolishly, as has been done in the past, this country will never develop and grow.

And yes, we have been stagnating in the past with a set of educated persons who obviously could not see beyond their noses. We must choose wisely this election, or we are doomed for good.

Sometime in the early 90’s before Fahie was a politician he was a coach for 2 basketball teams from West End for many years in the main basketball league. This proves that Fahie has always been a good ambassador for his community. He never got paid. There was no ulterior motive. It had to be a burden for a man his size to be standing so much but he continued and his teams were some of the better teams for many years. That’s why I respect Fahie and Dr. Pickering because even before politics these guys were always representing their districts. The only time people talk bad about these men is when politics is involved so you know to take it with just a grain of salt.

Ok, since you’ve defined what an Opportunist is let’s proceed to list the opportunists that F—- surrounds himself with on the g— team.

District 2 is an Opportunist. He loves to party. Has done nothing for District 2. Period.

District 3 is an Opportunist. Where was she hiding all this time?

District 4 is another Opportunist. Where was she hiding?

District 5 is a major opportunist! Where has he been? He was too good to mingle with the regular people of the District and is a fake. A good fake though.

District 6 another opportunist. He can’t work with nobody. Not VIP nor NDP. He defies the laws of rationale.

District 7 not so much an opportunist. Just misguided.

District 8, well no comment. Can’t figure out his angle.

District 9 is a manipulator. Took advantage of his position after the hurricanes to get where he is now. So guess what? That makes him an opportunist as well.

Won’t go to the At Large, but those are clear as well.

So you still want to call others opportunists when you laying in bed with quite a few!?? Talk dat!

Convenient excuse that he was in the Opposition. The District funds he received could have been used for something other than g******g palms. Not even a mold treatment for the school it couldn’t pay for. A proper maintenance schedule and fresh painting etc during the summer would go a long way. District funds are enough for that. Also, using all those energetic women supporters who out their shouting for his rise to Premiership could have helped him come up with youth programmes in the district to give our young men something to do with their time instead of smoking weed and drinking all day. Job fairs, encouraging the older heads to hire the young people for plumbing, electrician apprentices so they can learn a skill. Driving through a District twice a week that is a few miles long and talking to people is not representation. It should no longer be enough. It is 2019. Time to open your eyes, First District. Stay woke.
