Teen arrested for stolen dinghy
BVI News understands that a 17-year-old boy was recently arrested in connection with an investigation into a suspected stolen dinghy, but was later released pending further enquiries.
Sources said the teen was taken into custody after investigators linked him to a dinghy belonging to a charter yacht company that had been reported stolen several weeks earlier.
BVI News further understands that police were called after a group of people was seen using the stolen dinghy in Cane Garden Bay. Officers reportedly went to the beach area and questioned the group about how they came into possession of the vessel. It is understood that the group told police they had borrowed the dinghy from another individual who was not present at the scene.
As questioning continued, one member of the group allegedly told officers they learned about the vessel from a friend at school who had also explained how it could be retrieved.
Police reportedly arrested the minor while he was at school. However, he was later released after his parents were summoned and investigators determined that further enquiries were necessary.
Meanwhile, the adults who were allegedly found in possession of the dinghy have reportedly been charged with receiving stolen goods.
BVI News understands that at least two minors are connected to the incident, although it remains unclear whether either will face formal charges.
