They misrepresent me as a dictator — Premier Fahie

Premier Andrew Fahie has complained that his detractors have been falsely misrepresenting him as a dictator, but argued that his approach is better represented as ‘true leadership’.

At a weekend rally celebrating the Virgin Islands Party’s (VIP) third year in office, Fahie said his party has always been unified despite its differences.

He drew a contrast between his leadership throughout the pandemic and leadership of the previously governing National Democratic Party (NDP) administration following the devastation caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria.

“While we could not get everyone help, we tried to help everyone. And we helped quite a bit. We did not fold during the time our people needed us the most. We did not do like others and let the cement harden on the recreation grounds after Irma and none reached to the people to fix their homes,” he said.

“We did not do like others and let the food spoil before they could feed the people; because what we were despite our differences, was unified,” he argued.

“That’s why they misrepresent me as the dictator, and they misrepresent leadership for dictatorship,” he added.

“Leadership says ‘let’s go’, dictatorship says what they say, ‘I will go’ — and they went on their separate paths, while the people of the Virgin Islands remained suffering,” he said.

Premier Fahie also complained that his government is still saddled with paying bills incurred by the previous government. He said some of these lawsuits, which he said had no business being in the courts in the first instance, totalled as much as $20 million.

  1. One Question says:

WHEN WILL THIS GUY GROW UP????? Is he really comparing the aftermath of the most destructive hurricane on record that hit us directly to giving out food and money looosely during COVID?

Totally agree with you. In addition, there were no precedence for the then government to follow. Unlike COVID, the government could have adopted several policies from different jurisdiction but they chose not too.

  3. Talking Season says:

Apparently talking season started early. Everyone got their labels, deserved or not. You labelled Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith, and his Government as the most corrupt Government in the history of the Virgin Islands and from outside looking in now they seemed like choir boys when looking at your shannigans.

If on a 50 year anniversary of the VIP the only thin that one can speak about are the shortcomings of others in the most devastating time in the Virgin Islands after a Category 5 Hurricane went through, well, for you that is just business as usual.

And, by the way, if the people are right thinking and vote country instead of self, the other sitting Government will have lots of bills to pay that are left behind by Your Government. It is a natural continuum when old Governments hand over to new.

And as far as lawsuits that should not have been in the Courts, well the Speaker, I am sure with your blessing, gave us two doozies to pay for that should be most prevalent in your mind and disabuse you of even mention unnecessary lawsuits.

Alas, we know our ears will be burning for another year plus with this kind of talk, just thought I should answer this first one and say for a 50th Anniversary celebration you missed the boat by not just simply outlining all the wonderful works you did in your 20-somthing years under the VIP Government.

You are a lot more besides a dictator and those things are far worse than being a dictator. You are the biggest political mistake the country ever made. Ralphie warned people about you but they didn’t listen.

led by the emperor with no clothes, and defended against all logic by obsequious toadies complicit in the sleaze. Starting with their disastrous failure to rebuild the economy after Irma, they comprehensively abdicated leadership over Covid, resulting in our high death toll, a major drug epidemic, and porous borders. All the while complacently preening and strutting. Not sure if there is enough lipstick for this pig.

Fahie may not be the answer to our problems but 4 years isnt long enough for me to forget about the previous 8 years. NDP did fold during Irma and allowed mass wastage of the generous contributions of people from all over the world. They were nowhere to be found when we needed them the most. The high school was forgotten. I really hope new and fresh candidates with sense step up next election. We cant keep recycling the same people and expect different results.

This man has the audacity of complaining about lawsuits totaling up to 20 million and he spent more than 6 million on expensive lawyers to defend him and his band of would be criminals in the COI. That legal bill is nothing more than a fleecing of the treasury. If they were not doing wrong the expensive legal team would not be necessary. Time for ALL of them to go
