‘This year’s VG Fest would have been epic!’ Patrice Roberts was among lineup — Organiser

Franklin Walters.

Chairman of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Sub-Committee Franklin Walters said this year’s staging of the sister island event would have been one to remember, had it taken place.

The 53rd staging of the event was scheduled for April 11 and would have concluded today, Monday 13.

“Plans were progressing good, you know. We had everything in place, the lineup was probably just a day out before the first shutdown came,” Walters told BVI News.

“It was ready to rumble. We had Patrice Roberts and her band, R City, Cool Session Brass and Pumpa. Saturday was her (Patrice Roberts’) birthday, and she was the headline for the village opening. So that would have been epic. They (patrons) would have [had a good time], believe you me,” he added.

Roberts is a popular soca singer from Trinidad with hits like ‘Carry On’, ‘Old and Grey’ and ‘Not one thing’.

People would have benefitted

Walters, in the meantime, said this year’s festival would also have benefitted residents and business owners across the board.

“It would, more or less, be like a stimulus package for Virgin Gorda because the activities would create business for car rentals, hotels and all these different things,” the sister island’s festival committee head stated.

He said that he is unsure whether the festival would still be held this year.

“For my part, I would not. I would plan for a better festival next year. That would be my thoughts, but I don’t know if other committee members have any other ideas. For me it has passed, let’s move forward and plan better for next year,” Walters stated.

The festival, like others, was postponed due to the threat of the coronavirus, which forced the authorities to shut down the territory’s borders and place the BVI under lockdown.

There is a serious problem with some of us people, especially most of the ones of the African race. You try to do good, they f—–g complain. You do bad, same thing. African descendent you people need to try and uplift yourself instead of complaining about every little stupid thing.
