Three arrested in Greenland murder probe

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has arrested three individuals, including two minors, in connection to its murder investigation in the Greenland area of Tortola.

The arrests follow the fatal shooting of Eric Albert on June 20. As part of the ongoing investigation, RVIPF officers conducted a search operation at a residence in the community on June 27.

Police recovered an AR-15 assault rifle along with a quantity of 5.56 calibre ammunition during the search. Two minors and one adult were arrested in connection with the discovery, though no charges have been filed to date.

“The recovery of this weapon is a critical development in our investigation. It is especially alarming that such a dangerous firearm was discovered in a residence with minors. This underscores the urgent need for vigilance and support from the community,” Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool stated.

Eric Albert was reportedly shot and killed in Greenland in what authorities described as a targeted incident. The RVIPF has remained tight-lipped about further details surrounding the motive or the suspects’ potential connection to the deceased.

The discovery of an AR-15 will likely heighten fears about the presence of high-powered firearms in residential areas, especially in homes where children live.

Police are continuing their investigation and are appealing to the public for assistance. “Persons with relevant details are encouraged to contact the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-8477 (TIPS),” the RVIPF stated.

Authorities said further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
